Wow, nice video. I didn't think they'd already have testign so far away from opening...

What I don't understand is how most of you guys manage to go to Disney World 100 times a year, but can't manage $3.50 to watch this and the hundreds of other great videos and pictures on the site.

Don't assume. I go to WDW once a year if lucky and I, too, don't have a credit card or form of payment for a membership (I'm still 14).

can the we just. . .

Cant we just post the video on the a thread? so people who are 14:lookaroun can watch it that way? personally i dont think it's fair if some of us dont have the money!- i'm not saying it's a lot but dont you have to be so old for a paypal account?

MickeyMan101

P.S. is there any way someone could post it on a thread? if so that would be the best person on earth!

ME WANT EE!

That sounds good only in theory. But it wouldn't be fair to Steve for him to pay the cost of hosting the entire site on his own. You probably have no idea how much it costs steve to run this site.

I dont want to deviate too far from the point of this thread, but just to answer your question.

When WDWMAGIC was a smaller site, with just a few hundred visitors, I could post a video, and have those 100 people all view it, and it would only cost me about $100 per month to do that. It was my hobby, and I was prepared to pay thyat. Now there are 25,000 members on the forum, and an average of over 10 million page views per month. Now imagine if those 25,000 people all download all the videos available on the site. That would cost me tens of thousands of dollars per month to do that. It just isnt possible for me as an indivdual to do that. Even with the WDWMAGICPass system reducing the number of downloads, my costs are still in excess of $1000 per month.

A few years ago the decision came down to either closing down the website, or making the parts that were cost intensive to do (videos and large photos), available only to those who pay for the resources (bandwidth) that they use.

You can read more about this at http://www.wdwmagic.com/membership.htm

First of all, I was exagerating about 100 times. Even one trip a year to Disney World costs a lot of money. If you didn't buy one soda, that's about enough for a WDWMagic account. Second, I'm 14 and I have a Pass... Besides, my comment was directed mainly to the people that didn't have the pass, and were probably well over 14 years of age...

And now, back to the topic at hand...

3.50 is change money, and is well worth a download like that! Or any media for an entire month! So just imagine how much more Everest media is going to be added over the next month.. I can think atleast some! But it shouldn't matter, that isn't an insane amount of money. - Long Live WDWMagic, :D

thats funny.. I have a site that averages 5-6 million hits a month and high bandwidth use (I provide videos, photos, chat., etc, just like here... different topic though.. and no... not ) and I pay 90$ a month for my services..

Steve, you need to shop your bandwidth more.. How much BW do you use a month?

and before anyone freaks out at me.... I am a paid subscriber of WDWMagic.

I use 4 load balanced dedicated web servers (my own hardware and software), so it's a datacentre I am paying for, not just virtual hosting on a shared server. The hosting infrastructure of WDWMAGIC exceeds many corporation's hosting solutions.

Hits isnt really a comaprison. A single page view on WDWMAGIC will trigger about 100 or more hits.

My site is a similar situation. The dynamic content within it triggers a lot more than just one hit.. I too house my own software/hardware solutions and have my datacenter (overkill term for the location that houses mine hardware, but ok) fed via a dedicated t3 connection..

Are you in the uk?

Yes I am in the UK. Here 16U of rackspace with a 2MB line at a tier 1 datacentre runs at about $1500 per month.

well then use free sites like Disney-Central for your videos .. (the others not Steve  )

those that can afford the membership .. they should do it .. cause I think the speed of wdwmagic is much faster than Disney-Central (maybe torrents can get a bit faster in theory)
the others can visit our irc channel and download the videos (and many more (<300gigs).. well we don't have any ridevideo of EE ...yet  )

but we have that advantage that we only have to pay once a month .. in my case 100$ for my boosted private line .. and we also have a sort of load balance around 10 servers on the irc side :p

so stop beggin for free point and click downloads .. learn irc (or torrents)
