Expedition Everest Construction

I was in WDW this past week and took tons of pictures of EE's construction. But, due to my stupidity with my digital camera, accidentally deleted all my pictures so now I have none from my trip. It looked like to me that the workers were working at a fast pace. They were all over the construction site and you could hear them hammering and banging away everywhere. Are they trying to get it open sooner than expected, or is it just the normal construction timetable? And when is the village area surrounding EE going to open?

Well, just last week, or the week before, there was a thread telling us all that the track was just delivered. SO, being someone who schedules and runs construction projects for a living, I'd presume that the sudden jump in the number of workers is directly related to the arrival of the track.

Usually, fabricating parts, offsite, holds up projects. They probably had the foundations in the ground, and were just ready for the track, with nothing to do. Now, the track is there and they're scrambling to get back on schedule.

Just my guess.

I heard the village area will open when Everest itself opens, but they hope to open the walkway and the restrooms sometime before Easter.

The track wasn't really a hold up. Only a very small portion of the track is on site.
The mountain will take far longer than the track system.
Recently the focus has been on the small buildings and restroom area, in order to get them open soon.
The whole area will open in phases, right up until the ride opens in early 2006.

Do you know how many small buildings there will be? It looks like there might be two or three right now...but the concept art shows a lot more. Are there more village buildings on the way or is what is already done all of them?

I was just looking through Al Weiss's slides from the Florida press conference and there are two pretty cool ones. The slides are in pdf form...here is the link

Go to slides 41-43. There are 3 pics of Everest. The first is the concept art we've all seen. The second has 3 Imagineers (including AK head honcho Joe Rohde) sculpting a new model for Everest that is actually bigger than them!! The third pic is a concept of what the final product will look like by placing the concept art over the actual site. Cool stuff. Enjoy :)

It seems the smartest thing to do is to install the indoor track BEFORE the theaming goes up. Otherwise I think it could be very difficult to work around the interior designs.

There are MANY other ares of the attraction that will take a long time to construct (scenery, lighting, sounds, painting, animitronics, etc.). So as you may think they are going very fast on the project, just remember that the imagineers probably haven't even stepped foot on the site yet. The basic show building and track system must be in place before the real magic of the attraction can be created.

Also remember that the testing period takes forever. Remember Test Track? I just want the attraction to be perfect when they open it and not have any down time once it's open.

Actually the imagineers have a trailer down the road and they are there at that office 5 days a week. Part of the track is now up and assembled, inside the mountain (saw it as I drove by backstage). I only get to do that one more time as I am leaving to go into research, *looks at avatar* gee could you tell.

CTX, Awesome! That's the model that was Forbes a few months ago!

Though in Forbes, the track layout can be seen. :)
