Expanded Credit Card Requirements For ADRs

Looks like WDW has expanded the restaurants that require a deposit / charge for those no shows without proper cancellation times.

I am all for it. Should help with folks double booking for their convenience and leaving others out to dry. :)

Starting on October 26 2011, guests will be required to provide a credit card in order to make a reservation for signature dining restaurants across the Walt Disney World property. In the event that a cancellation is not made at least one day in advance, the credit card on the reservation will be charged $10 per person.

Signature restaurants requiring the credit card guarantee:
• 1900 Park Fare
• Akershus Royal Banquet Hall
• Artist Point
• California Grill
• Cape May Café
• Chef Mickey’s
• Cítricos
• The Crystal Palace
• Flying Fish Café
• The Garden Grill
• Hollywood & Vine
• Jiko – The Cooking Place
• Le Cellier Steakhouse
• Narcoossee’s
• ‘Ohana
• Tusker House Restaurant
• The Hollywood Brown Derby
• Victoria & Albert’s - $25 per person
• Yachtsman Steakhouse

I've eaten a lot of those restaurants. Not many deserve a 'signature' label. Credit card guarantee, yes. 'Signature' as in "we're proud to call this restaurant ours", no.

Maybe the should just say credit card guarantee on character meals + signature. I hope this helps with the impossibility to book some of those for the sake of others with little ones and/or who haven't eaten there before.

I agree. I think it will prove to be a popular change for most.

I'm all for this. I think it should extend to all table service restaurants on property. It would eliminate anyone doing reservations for 2-3 restaurants for each meal and then deciding once down there.

I say Boo! Big thumbs down from me.

I'm still stinging from an experience at the Royal Akerhaus a few years ago. We were stuck in a non-stop rainstorm. The kids were wet and complaining. The stroller was soaked. We just wanted to go home. I tried to move my ADR up, but they couldn't accomodate us.

Finally, I decided to bite the bullet and cancel. Keeping the reservation wasn't worth an angry wife and two crying kids - much less the chance of them getting sick in the rain. I knew there would be a cancellation fee. I was prepared to eat the $30 for myself, my wife and the 5-year-old. I was not at all prepared for the extra $10 Disney charged me for the cancellation for the 1-year-old who would not have even had to pay for her meal.

I know people around here are going to cheer the closing of loopholes for the small number of people who "cheat" the systems. But sometimes things happen and you have to cancel a meal in less than 24-hours. I see this as just another nail in the coffin of spontinaity at Disney World. I will be less likely to book at these restaurants in the future.

Edit: I'm pretty passionate about this policy. Having thought about it for an additional 24-hours, my thoughts have crystalized. This feels like a cash grab with no benefit to guests. I have written up my full thoughts on the subject at my blog.

I have to agree. I know some people take advantage but things do happen, even on vacation kids do get sick, and for my family it would be $60 if we had to cancel in less than 24 hours. I think a flat rate might be more appropriate rather than the per person.

I love the idea they they are cracking down on people booking multiple reservations and just not showing up. I hope there are special exceptions for people like above where you cannot stand in the rain and expect to stay there. I welcome anything that makes reservations more available.

They don't make exceptions now. I certainly don't expect them to make exceptions after expaning the policy.

I have many reservations for these restaurants after 10/26 in Oct, Nov, and Dec. Am I going to have to re-reserve them or supply a credit card number now?

With the high level of demand for these restaurants, including people who want to just walk up and get seated without a reservation, I think they should only enforce the $10 penalty if you don't cancel prior to your reservation no matter what time you cancel. 24 hours at a theme park is a long time, and plans might change. To be forced to go somewhere to eat, even though it might be inconvenient is a big issue that I think will cause many complaints at Disney.

So now that they are calling all of these "signature" does that mean 2 dinning plan credits now?

Honestly, I wouldn't be surprised if at least some of them did get switched to signature status requiring 2 credits to dine. Think of how much the price is to eat dinner at Chef Mickey's! Isn't it like $36 or $38 or something like that now? A steak at Yachtsman costs $40 + beverage. It's not that far of a spread in the pricing.

I believe the term "Signature Dining" was just incorrectly used in the blog. We already know many of them are not signature and I could not see the Garden Grill having the Signature status.

I am not at all opposed to this, but if there is some sort of freak issue like a hurricane or delayed flight there should be some sort of leniency with this. Maybe a reduction to a 2 hour minimum notice instead of 24 hour. You would satill be able to take walk-ins and Disney would not loose the income.

I wouldn't call The Yachtsman signature either but they do. Go figure.:lol:

I have to agree. So much can happen within 24 hours of a reservation. Make the cancellation policy 2 hours prior for ADRs starting at 9 a.m. EST (because the phones aren't open to call and cancel until 7 a.m.). Anything before 9 either cancel in the last 2 hours the night before or assume the risk. That still kinda screws ya if you have an early breakfast ADR and have a kid that gets sick overnight but it beats nothing, right?
