Everything you've always wanted to know about Main Street...

I've spent the last two months gathering and researching info about the design, details, secrets, easily missed items about Main Street USA in Walt Disney World. I wanted it to be something for the real Disney fan... I'm a art and design professor at a small liberal arts college and I have always wanted to research and document the various lands of the parks.

I wanted something that I could pull up on my phone and stroll through my favorite part of the park and really try to take it all in.

I've posted up Part I. Take a look and let me know what you think.

Part II is coming soon and it will focus on each of the specific shops and buildings.

Enjoy!

Excellent video. it just makes me sad to see how Main St. has gotten worse over the years. Hate to complain and still love Disney World but as I have said in numerous posts what was once another "land" in Magic Kingdom that you could spend an easy hour or two in ie .. the theater that is actually a theater or the arcade where you could play vintage games for 5 and 10 cents to the ice cream parlor to all the nostalgic entertainment etc has now become one giant souvenir shop selling the same merchandise that you can get anywhere else. Luckily I saw Main Street in the 70s and early 80s when it was as it should be...this video and the whole article just reinforces my belief that Walt would not be happy to see what it has become which is nothing more the a conduit to get to someplace else in the park......

I too am glad that I was able to experience Main Street in both the 70's and 80's and yes it felt very different. But I do get enough of the overall essence of the original concept that I am still satisfied with my own personal experience when I visit.

Nicely done! I love looking at the construction photos.
You are touching on my weakness...I love finding any construction photos. They are surreal and surprising.

I like to find the less circulated ones. I've even seen on some message boards where relatives of deceased construction workers had some photos of WDW under construction and I wish they would post them for others to enjoy! If anyone needs help developing or scanning I would love to help.
