Have to say, Everest is looking mighty now. At first when it was just scaffolding and foundations, seeing it in person, was quite disappointed at the size. However, as always it pays to wait to gather impressions, now it is looking grand and big on impact.

I hear they are ahead on schedule, as anyone heard of an approx date for 2006 yet?

They should ask Sir Edmund Hillary to open the attraction next year! 1st man up Everest. What a nice gesture! If he's too busy, I don't mind doing it. I once walked the length of regent street in London in just my socks!

I always get the feeling in WDW that "things used to be bigger". Maybe it's just that I've grown. Things seem so much bigger when you're a kid. After our trip in Jan my GF (her first time to WDW) commented: "I thought the castle was going to be a lot bigger." Oh well. We always have a great time down there (how can you not... you're at WDW?!)

Just remember: It's not about how big it is... it's the about the magic it creates!

My wife said the exact same thing on her first visit. All I could do was shrug and say the camera probably puts a few feet on the castle.

As for Everest, I've gotten used to concept drawings being exaggerated, so I'm keeping my expectations about this attraction in check. *sigh* I probably won't get to ride it until 2008 or later.

Anybody heard of the term "forced perspective"? :lookaroun .....and even if that was the case, it's still pretty big. Remember, for the most part most of us have only seen it from one side.

Everest is the ride I have been most looking forward to ride! This looks like the great Disney experience, thrills, theming, the whole package. I cant wait to see it when I go in Aug. It looks like they have made very good progress on it. Remember it cant be that big because they dont want airplane lights on it.

Furthermore, its not based on a movie. Its an orrignal themed attraction. Not to say a movie wont be happening with it, which it likely will and could be in production and no one knows it......

A movie based on this ride is rumored to be in developement. That was talked about when the ride was first started. They sort of went together like mission space and the movie mission to mars. Oh and dont forget count down to extinction turning into dinosaur because of the movie.

Can anyone compare Everest to Splash or something else to give an idea of how big it is exactly?
I believe Splash Mountin itself is about 83 feet tall, and the big drop on Everest is about 80, so that should give you an Idea.

Oh, and Everest is 199 feet tall so they don't have to put a blinking red light on it :D (Same as Tower of Terror).
