Thought I'd be one of the first to start the Expedition Everest rumors flying!!!!
What do you think the chances are that E:E will be a wooden coaster?
OK, maybe not a true "woody". Much of the superstructure will likely be metal for maintainence purposes. But could the track be wooden with flat rails, rather than tubular steel?
Those models of E:E floating around online appear to show two circular "helix" structures-- similar to the ones found on large wooden coasters. (link to those model photos?)
Looking at the conceptual drawings, it appears POSSIBLE that the tracks could be flat wood.
A wooden coaster would certainly give the ride that wonderful, rickety-old railroad feel. (Big Thunder Mountain is just too smooth to be a "runaway mine train". Great ride, but not as realistic!) If there was ever a theme for Disney to build a wood coaster around, Everest would be it!
Also, a wooden coaster would be Disney's first (California Screamin' at California Adventure LOOKS like a woody, but it's actually a tubular steel coaster)
