Everest- wooden coaster?

Thought I'd be one of the first to start the Expedition Everest rumors flying!!!!

What do you think the chances are that E:E will be a wooden coaster?

OK, maybe not a true "woody". Much of the superstructure will likely be metal for maintainence purposes. But could the track be wooden with flat rails, rather than tubular steel?

Those models of E:E floating around online appear to show two circular "helix" structures-- similar to the ones found on large wooden coasters. (link to those model photos?)

Looking at the conceptual drawings, it appears POSSIBLE that the tracks could be flat wood.

A wooden coaster would certainly give the ride that wonderful, rickety-old railroad feel. (Big Thunder Mountain is just too smooth to be a "runaway mine train". Great ride, but not as realistic!) If there was ever a theme for Disney to build a wood coaster around, Everest would be it!

Also, a wooden coaster would be Disney's first (California Screamin' at California Adventure LOOKS like a woody, but it's actually a tubular steel coaster)

I can't see Disney building a wooden coaster. Steel just seems easier to maintain. Then again, this is all just speculation. Only the real imagineers know for sure. :)

Because the ride is suppose to be an old mining or train track I would assume that it will appear to be wodden supports similar to Big Thunder Mountain where it goes over the Rivers of America. The question is will it be real wood or faked ala California Screamin' at DCA.

With Florida humidity...especially like the humidity in Animal Kingdom...plus all the rainy weather of summers...the wood could be real hard to maintain...I mean don't get me wrong Florida has woodies...but I just don't see Disney making such a costly decision...as of now they are more into rides that can last a long time and require the smallest amount of cash for maintainance.

I personally like both types of coasters so it doesn't matter to me...in fact if they do go for the California Screamin type of look...I wouldn't mind......just my opinion.

Does anyone know if the company making the coaster has ever made wooden coasters?

The company making Everest (Vekoma) has never made a wooden coaster before. And judging by what Disney has said and by looking at the artwork I highly doubt Everest will be wooden. I just hope after Everest Disney stops using Vekoma. I personally would rather see a B&M or Intamin coaster in the future.

Amen!! Of all the coaster manufacturers, Disney chose the worst one with which to partner (no doubt, the lowest bidder)! Vekoma's coasters are notorious for getting rougher and rougher over the years because of the wheels they use. You can already notice it on Rock n Roller Coaster and I've heard it's gotten kind of bad on Space Mountain in Paris.

Vekoma has actually built three wooden roller coasters--Loup Garou at Six Flags Belgium, Robin Hood and Six Flags Holland, and Thundercoaster at TusenFryd...all international, but Vekoma built...and with three cars per train, like our concept art. Always a possibility.

I'm hoping California Screamin' is a sign of things to come. I have yet to ride it but this summer I went to Cedar Point and had my first taste of Intamin coasters and thought they were great. I have also heard that Space Mountain in Paris is falling apart. But apparetnly its a number of problems, not all Vekoma related. Apparently the music rarely works and the lights inside don't do what they're supposed to.

I live in belgium so i've ridden weerwolf, a vekoma woody, a lot.
I really, really hope that disney isn't putting a vekoma woody in expedition everest. It is a smooth ride, but not really special.
Although the seats are extremely comfortable.

I think a wooden coaster would be really good but there are ways of making stell coasters be like wooden ones. There is a roller coaster near where i live called 'The Big One'. Its one of the highest coasters ever built (Blackpool, England.) Its a steel coaster but is like a wooden one in many ways. Who knows what sort of technology will be used on Everest !?

Definately steel

If Disney is concerned about maintainence costs, which they are, then it wouldn't be very smart of them to invest in a woodie.

The track will more or less be just like Thunder Mountain. The only wood you'll find near the track will be the fake rail ties along with other scenery that will be flying by.

The Big One isn't a steel wanna be woodie coaster, it's just crap.

But anyway, it's steel. I thought this was confirmed a while ago?

Ladies and Gentelmen, Boys and Girls... I have a picture of what EE's track and ride vehicle may look like. It is official: EE is a steel coaster!! I've been looking through Vekoma's website and found they have a ride just like EE called Mine Cart(In China), and the pictures of the ride vehicles, are EXACT to what the concept art vehicles look like. It looks as though EE might be an altered version of Big Thunder Mountain, except modern, faster, and on a steel track, and goes backward. In the webpage, features technical specifications on that particalular ride. Remember: This and EE are almost the same except speed and g-forces, due to how the ride's drop will be. Here's the weblink:

I love the roughness of a wooden coaster but i think it will be a steelcoaster. Personally they are beeter coasters. Most Coasters now are being built out of steel. i dont kno all the facts about coasters but im sure that steel coastes are much popular
