Everest and Mission: SPACE

with the official announcement for Everest less than a month away, wouldn't it make sense for wdw to release Mission: SPACE's official opening date at the Everest Press Release? I just figured they wouldn't want to confuse people with a new project before telling them when the current one will be ready for guest enjoyment. Opinions?

Hopefully they will announce M:S's opening date when they announce Mt. Everest so as to, as you have said, not confuse people about new attractions and when they will open...:)

I would be surprised if Disney made an announcement of M:S opening date at the AK press conference. It would be nice if they did, and it would be nice to know, but after the criticism they've suffered in the past, I would suspect they will wait until the ride system is as tested as tested can get before an announcement.

But then, I've been wrong about my ed-u-ma-cat-ed guesses before. The last time was...let's see...what time is it?

I think that announcing the M:S opening date at the AK press conference would confuse a lot of the general public (but not the people who hang out at wdwmagic).

Also, I just don't think that they would make an announcement about an Epcot attraction at an AK event.

I think when they announce Mt. Eisner wouldn't be the best of times to annouce the opening date for M:S. Thats just my opinion. It would be interesting to just walk into the park and see the ride open, you know, without any announcements...:lookaroun

Disney will announce an opening date--they do that for every attraction, so as to have the big media blitz. There will undoubtedly be soft openings, but there will be an official opening date, and I just figured if it is opening this summer, late April would seem like a good time to announce the opening date. Everyone in Florida who will be watching the Everest press release already knows about Mission: SPACE, so I see no reason why they couldn't announce its date at that press release--I figured people would be kinda cranky hearing about a new project before the one they have been waiting for is even done (I know it won't open in April, but at least if it has an opening date scheduled, people will know it's about ready--I'm sure Disney has a pretty good idea of when this ride will be ready to open.

I hope you are right Kyle. I have been waiting for this ride to open for quite some time...and i know i am not the only one who is itching for it it begin excursions into space.

They will either announce a date before or after. I mean why would they mention M:S at an AK event. My money is on them announcing the M:S opening after the AK event, they'll do a big press event at Epcot and perhaps give some info about Gemini to the media, making Gemini official(but maybe the Gemini thing is a little too much). If they are asked when M:S will open at the AK event by the media, they could easily resort to their excuse about how it wouldn't be the right thing to talk about M:S with the Columbia disaster.

We can only hope that sometime in the near future this thing will open. As for the AK event I can't wait. Either way eventually we will have both pieces of news....eventually.:lookaroun

There is no need to have a media event for the announcement of an opening. A simple press release would do. Also, while the media event will be centered around Animal Kingdom, there is no reason to believe they won't mention Mission: Space. Like everyone else has said, it is a little strange to be talking about Disney World's "next big thing" when it's current "big thing" doesn't even have an opening date. I expect some sort of mention of Mission: SPACE either way.

I don't think they need an extra media blitz just to announce M:S's opening date--they will have one when it finally opens. I still think they can do it all here. Disneyland announced Pooh and Playhouse Disney at the same time, and they are in different parks...it just seems like a two day media blitz in April is a bit much to release details on one ride and nothing else. Mission: SPACE already had its BIG press release (3 years ago...), this would just need to be a one sentence blurb before announcing Everest. "First off, we would like to announce that Mission:SPACE, over at Epcot, will be opening on _______. Beyond that, we have more exciting news for our guests!..."

Well maybe (I'm not sure if he's scheduled to or not) Eisner himself will give this announcement at AK. That way, even if the date's not scheduled to be announced, me might just find out anyway--you know how slippery Mike's tongue can be. . .
