Evening Extra Magic Hours to Return

Mouseplanet reports that Evening Extra Magic Hours are likely to return in early January 2005, after the conclusion of the holiday season. The only day they mention is that MGM's night will be Sunday, which does differ from the May testing, so I couldn't even guess which days each park will have. Regardless, good news for Resort guests :)

WOW! I'll have to run over to MP and check it out. I was just in the middle of planning my trip the week of Jan 9, and was a bit sad after I looked at the hours. They are similar to when I went a few weeks ago, but I didn't notice it as much because I attended several MNSSHP's.

/cheer!

I hope it's when I go...crossing my fingers.

EDIT : Who-hoo! :) It starts the very day I arrive. I can't wait for more information as to which parks/which days. And I didn't realize it was for three hours - that's quite cool!

Yeah, I don't have any more information at the moment, though I'm hoping that my source will come through with the rest of the schedule for the other parks. I'll post it in an update as soon as I hear anything.

nice update!

now I'm even more excited to go in Jan :)

but how does this work exactly? does every one leave the park at closing and only teh resort guests are allowed back in or something?

To explain it simply, Resort guests with valid room keys are given wristbands during the day, and only they are allowed on attractions after park close for the additional 3 hours. In theory anyone else could stay, but they would only be allowed in stores or restaurants, and I don't see Disney really caring if you stay an extra 3 hours to spend money...it's a simple system that makes sense yet wastes a lot of plastic...I think a handstamp would be more environmentally friendly (for the company that spearheaded EnvironMentality).

Wow that is great news. We were there during the May trial of the evening hours, it was great! We have our Jan vacation planned already; it would be awesome if it was for the dates we are there. Does anyone know what the dates will be? We will be there Jan 15-22.

I was fortunate to have been at WDW last May when the testing for Extra Magical hours were going on.

I really enjoyed the EMH at The Magic Kingdom.
Unfortunately,I wasn't able to make it to MGM or Animal Kingdoms.

In my opinion, EPCOTS extra magical hours were a disaster.
They need to change a few things if they're going to do it again in THIS park.

Almost all of the World Showcase's countrys were closed, and most of the gift shops in both WS and FW were closed.

This forced the masses to converge on the few remaining things open in Future World.
Test Track and Mission Space were flooded with people and the lines were really long.

On the bright side, since there wasn't much else to do, for the first time in years, I actually saw people in The Wonders of Life Pavilion.

In the future, if they resume these extra magical hours, which it looks like they are going to. I hope they keep all of World Showcase open and all the gift shops as well.

This is permanent...probably excepting really busy seasons where keeping the parks open till 1 am or 2 am 4 nights/week would be ridiculous. As for Epcot, I would not count on World Showcase being open other than Mexico and Norway. It would be very difficult to find the staff for all of World Showcase to work from 9 pm til 12 am. The lines may be longer than E-Ride Nights or morning Extra Magic Hours, but keep in mind 1) this is free to Resort guests 2) it's 3 hours, not 1

I was quite impressed with the program...the parks are just so much more amazing at night than 8 am.

This is great news. I'll be there in Feb with my family, on their first trip. Not that I don't think we won't have more than ample time for everything, but just knowing we would have this option if we needed as a buffer zone is very good news. Thanks for the info!

Exactly! Even if you don't get in tons of rides (which admittedly is my favorite thing), it's still going to be cool to be in the parks that late. I've never been in MGM past 8, and this means it will be open until 10! That's a really cool treat for my first night (the 9th, when it starts). I have a Fantasmic! package for that night, but now I'm thinking of changing that with this new development - I bet the first 1/2 hour when everyone is still in Fantasmic! the rides that are open will be totally dead. Then I'd just catch Fantasmic! another night.

I know it's likely to change, but does anyone know what rides were open at which parks during the test? I'd love to know if GMR stays open...

I was there in May for the extra hours at Epcot, we walked right on to Mission Space and test track? The only thing I didnt like was that a lot of the stores and stands closed at regular time.

Um...you're not allowed to start planning new trips when I still haven't even seen the pictures from your last one yet. :p
