Evacuations

This was a first for me considering how frequently I ride Tower of Terror. There was a problem with it, not sure what, but we never actually left the loading area. So they took us off and put us in a new elevator. They got it fixed pretty quickly but I didn't want to get in that elevator again. Now sometimes there will be a long dramatic pause right before we start dropping and I get nervous thinking we're stuck. I always feel better when we start dropping

Well it's a common misconception that the window overlooking the whole park on tower of terror is a ride feature. It is actually a fire exit.

As you are in a "Limo" in rock n roller coaster, Disney designed the ride so you could drive away from danger.

For Soarin, the vacation point is as you fly over the sea, you must jump out of your glider and into sea, away from the fire.

Tower of Terror = if the vehicle is not in a shaft, see the video posted by @mergatroid. If the vehicle is in a shaft, the load lifts can be called back to the load zone, and the drop lift can be lowered slowly to the ground (unload) floor with the vehicle in it. This is how guests are evacuated off of ToT the majority of the time. Its actually one of the easier thrill rides to evacuate.

Indeed. RnRC stops at brake zones where there are adjacent platforms and stairs.

Soarin', one can imagine it has an emergency gravity release.

Tower, if all else fails, can evacuate onto the roof of the VVC as a very last resort.

Silly question - but what does VVC stand for? From what I just read in another thread, it seems to be the mechanism that actually controls the ride? Or am I wrong?

VVC = Vertical Vehicle Conveyance (or maybe Conveyor)

It's essentially the frame inside the Load and Drop shafts that the ride vehicle (aka the AGV: Autonomous Guided Vehicle) rolls into and locks into. The cables are attached to the top and bottom of the VVC to drive it up and down the shaft.

The VVC's are essentially elevators. Really fast ones.
