ESPN WWOS - Is there anything to do there?

We have a son who is really into sports, and every time we drive down Osceola Parkway, he asks us to stop by the ESPN complex. We always say, "no, there's nothing to do there unless your team is competing there," and drive right on by. We assume we're correct, but is this actually true? Is there anything to do there if you're not there for an event as a competitor or spectator?

Is the complex even open to explore? Could I take the kids to the track and work on their long jump? Can visitors get time on the basketball courts, etc?

I want to know, too. I have never been there, but sometimes have thought of going, just to be a Disney completist and check it out. I heard they have a restaurant there, that's about the only thing I'd be interested in. Not into sports.

Um, no. I actually looked there first before I posted this thread. The FAQs are all oriented toward competitors and spectators, as is the single sentence about the welcome center.

My questions still stand. Unless you mean that I should read between the lines and assume the answers to my questions are all negative, since all content on that site are specifically for competitors and spectators.

So, it's not a place a resort guest can go and book some facility time, I take it?

It doesn't appear there is anything to do there unless you are going to watch a specific sporting event.

Unless you have any tickets to any sporting event (Cheerleading Competitions, Pop Warner Football, Spring Training Baseball. RunDisney Marathons) it's only other reason of going..https://www.espnwwos.com/events/

This is why there is hardly ever a bus at a Disney Hotel going there regularly on a daily basis..

It's exactly what it is....

I have been to WWOS in order to complete my WDW penny collection. They have a small gift shop there with a penny machine. There is no charge to go that far into the complex. Never went to the restaurant, although I did get a pic out front at the WWOS globe.

Is there a soccer field there? Some MLS games being played there might be cool. I realize that the Orlando City SC play in another stadium, but maybe they could negotiate a few games there.

Nine year lurker, finally my first post...

It's included in my AP but all major events seem to be excluded? I was also curious if the "ESPN Sports Grill" was something out of this world but what I can see on the pictures it seems a bit underwhelming. Anyone has any input on the restaurant (setting/food)? Thought maybe it could be worth watching the NBA final there one night.

It's really not worth going to unless you have a need. It's just a large sports complex, and you can wander around the fields with the valid admission from Park Hopper Plus, unless there are surcharge events being held. In terms of booking time, don't believe you can. And I'm not sure if you show up and start using the facilities what they will do. I've only been there for runDisney events, but have never seem CMs just wandering around the fields. If you have been to a large-ish college, you have probably seen similar field setups.

Several baseball fields, some football fields, soccer fields, track facility and a few stadiums/field houses for indoor events. There are some places where ESPN reportedly worked on developing new tech, but don't think it was ever open to the public.

The ESPN sports grill used to be an All-Stars Cafe back before that chain went under. But I don't know if it is open daily, or just during events. It's really just a CS location with a bunch of TVs, nothing like the actual ESPN Club at BW.

Doesn't the Atlanta Braves do their spring training there? Also, I believe at one time the Harlem Globetrotters headquartered there.
This past spring was the Braves last spring training in Orlando and they were the last in the Orlando area to leave. A new facility is being built in Sarasota for them. The divide between teams is growing farther and farther apart in the Grapefruit league. The only teams left near central Florida are the Yankees, Blue Jays, Phillies, and Tigers.

Years ago I went to a baseball game and another year went to a pass, punt, event and both times got there early with DS. We ate at the sports grill and they had a house dart board set up on the side area. We asked to use the house darts and I played a couple of matches against DS. Nothing else really there. Its too bad Disney was never able to utilize the venue more.

Good info. Thanks, everybody. Kind of what I figured, but wanted to hear from people who had been there.

It would make for a nice "off day" destination if we could get in some time on the track. My daughter needs all the baton passing practice she can get :)

Just some brain storming but I wish the Mouse would consider building an all new bigger Allstar Sports Resort over here making it more ideal for teams and groups visiting who use the ESPN-WWoS by adding other activities making it more of a destination then what it is today. Then change the theme of the existing one freeing up some of the rooms during the influx of the sporting events.
