ESPN Club(Zone) to Downtown Disney?

I've been hearing rumors of Disney Quest becoming an ESPN Zone for a long time from several sources (including a recent thread which decended into randomness) and am very excited about it.

Now that "Day Guests" are forced to park in the cast member lot at the Boardwalk, I can't imagine that I'll ever see the inside of the ESPN Club again. Especially since the All-Star Cafe is still offering 50% to cast members!

With the Xbox 360 coming out, it seems there is little left to impress at the Disney Quest that a kid can't get at home. Even the CyberSpace Mountain lost it's cool once they put that awful display in front of Cirque.

Anyway, I've heard nothing more that the odd "hey, I heard ESPN is moving into the Disney Quest building" and what I've read in the talent-cut thread, but my fingers are crossed.

The rumor that they're gonna close/change DisneyQuest has been going around for years. I worked there in 2003-2004 and for as much $$ as they put into that place...i DOUBT they're gonna change it. IMO

I couldn't disagree more. The Xbox is just another console...you sit and stare at the TV and use the controller to play. It's nothing at all like the attractions at Disneyquest (POTC, Jungle Cruise Rafts, Aladdin, Alien Encounter, Buzz Lightyear Astroblasters, etc.) When Xbox starts shipping the front half of a boat with 6 cannons and 3 huge TVs (i.e. POTC), then there will be little left to impress that a kid can't get at home.

I don't believe this rumor at all. I'm pretty sure this rumor started when Disneyquest in Chicago was pretty much replaced by an ESPN zone.

I for one think moving ESPN to DTD is great idea. I always thought that ESPN Zone didnt really "fit in" with the Boardwalk atmosphere, and does fit in at DTD. Why not put somewhat of a more traditional Boardwalk type attraction in ESPNs place, I dont know, maybe games, another restaurant, etc... just IMO

I do believe it should be moved to DTD just not into Disneyquest. Disneyquest is still a very unique and fun place to visit. I always have a blast there especially with Pirates.

I couldn't agree with Fallen Angel more. They put so much money into DisneyQuest, and it still turns a profit for them, unless it begins to cost them more money to keep up the mantenience of the building, pay the salaries and electricity bills it brings with it, along with all other operating and overhead costs it incorporates exceeds those of its revenue... meaning its losing money, they won't close it.

Not to mention (anyone hear who was/is a business major and knows accounting well will understand this, some people may not though) but not to mention that... they could still be losing money, but it'd be cheaper to keep the place than it would be to bag it (due to contracts, depriciation costs, and all the accounting junk)

so don't expect it to close down anytime soon

funny... Disney Regional Entertainment must be mad that WDW took over the LBV Disneyquest after Chicago went under, and must want that spot back under the only product they currently offer.

My 13 yo ds will be very disappointed if DQ goes. He's a gaming geek and absolutely LOVES DQ. Most trips (Our 5th will be over Christmas this year.:xmas:), he spends the majority of the time on his own at DQ.
