Took them long enough. ESPN getting $1.5 billion over ten years is a pretty solid deal.

The most intriguing thing? PENN sold Barstool back to David Portnoy as part of the transaction. PENN basically told Barstool to suck eggs.

How so? Barstool/Dave most likely will get the better end of that deal…

ESPN is still collapsing…it’s only been heading that way for 15 or so years

They need to pivot out of it…this could be a step toward that

They should lean into gambling, make the Riviera a Casino Resort and turn DisneyQuest/NBA Experience into a Sportsbook. Pretty sure i'd never leave.
Would require Florida's laws to allow for commercial casinos. DeSantis took a ton of money from the major Vegas-based casino companies for reelection - would be nice if he tried. Sadly, the Seminoles would fight to hell and back (possibly even winning), even if they lose their main anti-gambling partner due to this deal.

While both sides claimed there were no issues, Barstool's....approach, let's say, must've led to some friction or wasn't bringing people in like they thought. PENN was certainly, no pun intended, all-in on them.

The funny thing is Disney never needed to fight to put gambling on property or cruise ships.

They had something better. They would offer a great experience under a strong brand of great experiences and charge out the whazoo for it as people were happy to trust it while also paying for their entire family or party to experience it.

That is why Vegas, even at its best could never compete with Central FL.

Desperate times.

People will pay for a good product a great product pretty much no matter what they will find a will and a way. Add on a brand name like Disney and this company should have never been in a position like this no matter what. Its not like vacationing has come to a hault. It hasnt. Years probably a solid decade of their arrogance and belief they were invincible finally has caught up to them.

The ballet is next. Maybe it’s time they dust off the Pleasure Island signs.

“Mickey’s Casino and Sportsbook”. Flanked by “Goofy’s Gentlemen’s Club”
…what good is having 10,000 minimum wage college programmers with parents fronting their costs if you can’t open up “new revenue streams” with them? 🤔

…this move reeks of bob’s stock desperation…and I bet he’s misreading how the market will receive it in the wash…

Unless he’s already said this Simply for a sale/spinoff…which is what it appears to be.
