Absolutely correct on both accounts. That last couple of years that Ice Station Cool was there is was in terrible condition. The Snow Cat had rust spots all over and a few lights out. The tunnel's snow maker was um well, not much of a snowmaker anymore. The last time I was in there the cave was barely even cool. Even the paint on the entrance to the ice cavern needed to be redone.
I loved the themeing of it, but it was just in the wrong place. It did not fit in with the bldg's of FW and neither does Club cool, but it is a little better but boring.
Now put Ice Station Cool into the Everest mountain and now were talking. Maybe even a roller coaster drive thru. Stop to watch the yeti tear up the track and they offer you vial tasting Coke products.
Its placement in future world was out of place. Quite honestly it would have fit better in WS but then you would run into the issue of it not truly representing the county it was put in. But forgetting all of that is was simply cool and I am glad it was at least somewhere in WDW.
It was also let go from a maintenance stand point which was a shame. I liken its later years a really cool classic car that is that is slowly rotting away sitting in some old guy's back yard. You know he will never do anything with it.. Eventually it will go to the junk yard which is exactly what happened to Ice station cool.
I think we all know why Club Cool is like it is now. The same mission is achieved (advertising for coke) at a much lower cost. Works well on a spreadsheet but there is nothing all that cool or unique about it. That would be fine for something in your local mall but not in Disney where everything is supposed to be a part of a story.
