Epcot's Holidays Around the World shortened for 2013

Why exactly did Lights of Winter stop? Also, is it true that Osborne lights at HS are leaving soon?
outdated technology $$

Very likely the case.

The oft mentioned reason was indeed outdated technology. But yet right around the same time WDW promoted how they had just updated every light at DHS to be LED and how it was now the latest and greatest tech. And several members chimed in how affordable the tech should be if they did go ahead and update it. Ones that claim to have knowledge of stage lighting and such. So that may have either been a cover story, an explanation concocted by some well-meaning guest services CMs, or there may have indeed been some deep dark secret tech we are all unaware of.

According to several sources, yes, the DHS lights will be leaving/moving/something as part of the rumored DHS redo project. But with all things WDW, wait until it actually happens since mgmt loves to change their minds.

Google "Lights of Winter Epcot" or something similar. Take that as a starting point of one of the major decorations they got rid of a few years ago and haven't done nearly anything equivalent to replace it. (Despite them still sitting in the parking lot in shrink wrap as of Jan.)

Yea... I have many pics of those.. I just do not remember them super decorating Epcot as I was growing up

Screamscape (I know) reports a rumor that the Osborne lights may move to Epcot next year. I would question the timing but not the move since discussions have been occurring on how to replace the Osborne lights once they are evicted from DHS and I'm not sure anywhere else at DHS would be a good candidate during its reconstruction. This would be most welcome!

- (7/18/13) The rumored removal of the Osbourne [sic] Family Christmas Lights from the Studios may end up being Epcot’s gain. The latest rumors around the resort claim that there may be a plan to salvage them for a new Christmas light display program for Epcot. Where exactly they may go is still a subject for discussion as some rumors talk about putting them in Future World while others talk about creating fun theme displays at the various country pavilions around World Showcase instead. I vote for the later option myself, along with finding a way to plus the long pathway between the two halves of the park which lost it’s own Christmas light display pieces a few years ago.

I wonder if it could be done in or around Millenium Village?

Understood on Thanksgiving being late, but it seems we have lost nearly an entire week of the holiday entertainment, yet the park will be completely decorated.

I would understand after Thanksgiving if everything else for the Holidays started after Thanksgiving. That is not the case. Osborne and Christmas parties start way before Thanksgiving. I lean with you that it was a way to dodge some costs.

Makes more sense than around WS, or even on the bridge, unless they severely curtail the display. Wasn't there talk that the length of time in setting up the lights is one reason DHS doesn't have a Halloween after-hours event? This was construction could be done for a month or two backstage.

I am liking this because you put in the (I know). I think that should be required every time someone cites Screamscape as a source. They should just change the name of the site to Screamscape (I Know).

Where would I find pictures of what it used to look like decorated???
Agree. Unfortunately it is no longer a draw for me at that time of year to go there. Did once. I would rather go now in May or October. I wonder if this is because of Disney cost cutting or trying to separate themselves from that season. Ya know, Seasons Greetings instead of Merry Christmas?

Well, part of what makes the Osborne lights so cool (to me, anyway) is how they "dance" with the music. I don't know how that could happen in WS with CP going on at the same time. I was speculating on another thread if it would be posible to put them in DS once construction there is finished.

I hate that Season's Greetings crap... it is freakin' Christmas and that is why they decorate... Not for other holidays... It is called a Christmas Tree, and Disney has some big ones! I love October and May as well. I just wish they would really decorate for all holidays. There is no reason with having your own decorating department that the parks are bare...

Shoot, they don't even do cool banners everywhere like they used to down main street. I loved YOAMD, banners galore!
