I have been curious about The Outpost Section of World Showcase...Now it was to be the Equitorial Africa section and it looked like they were starting on an entrance. They have all the theming that your about to enter into Africa..But, Then it looked like it just fell through and what we have is the Outpost area with a food stand, small shops and a place to smack bongos...What did this section of the park look like before they made it a little snack stand/shop section?

I always feel embarrassed for the Outpost. It's like they're drawing attention to the fact that there's no (non-Moroccan) African countries in World Showcase, but don't go as far as to make a full pavilion. It seems like the Outpost should be either significantly upgraded or removed altogether, since Animal Kingdom arguably has Africa represented better.

Probably already answered. Supposed to be a variety of different countries, the last of which became Africa. Africa became Animal Kingdom, the remaining space, The Outpost. Space there for a new country.

I concur. The African area is the best part of DAK. It does sub-saharan Africa proud (well, it's mostly East Africa). Even if DAK is more 'warts and all' than the idealised WS representations.

Does the same hold true for 'the Indian subcontinent'? DAK's Asia isn't Asia - not the Philippines, not Yemen, not Korea. DAK's Asia is the Indian subcontinent - by weight of population the most glaring omission from WS. I would like to think so, that the two vast subcontinents of Africa and India (nearly forty percent of the world's population) have found representation in DAK.

Me, I think I would use the Outpost area for temporary WS respresentations. A new country every year. Nothing too elaborate, some arts and crafts, elements of Food and Wine festival, one-year CP's from these countries, and whatever else some country or its industry is willing to sponsor. This would give countries such as Peru, Poland, Vietnam, Nerw Zealand a chance for WS representation, and is a great way to entice repeat visits.

It used to be an empty, landscaped section of promenade. Nice and peaceful.

Then the tack was added to try to hide the embarrassing gap between pavilions of the canal and two unused expansion areas.

A nice thought for the future:

I would love if they add another country or two to Epcot and also add to AK and expand. A plus for both parks.
Althought Epcot showcases the country more and AK seems to use it more as an overall theme. With planning and new ideas AK can enhance that.
