Epcot - What's up with this?

Hopefully I'm not crazy and have been missing this all these years - nah, don't think so.

Obviously we know that there's music everywhere at WDW, part of the charm

But this afternoon DW and I were heading from World Showcase over to check the festival center. Passing by some great topiaries in the area where the Christmas tree always sits, we heard familiar music.

I've never heard vocal music at Disney, but there it was - Elvis Presley singing "Heartbreak Hotel". No, it wasn't our imaginations.

Unfortunately we were in a hurry and couldn't ask anyone or hang for long, but as we were heading into Future World, I'm convinced the next song up was one by Steppenwolf.

I'm guessing this has something to do with F&G, but the selection and location seemed odd. Any insight or info would be appreciated.

They play music that corresponds to the theme of the event, so in this case, it's music that fits with the "beach" theme. I heard "Hawaiian Roller Coaster Ride" and "Kokomo" playing myself, but as Elvis is usually connected with Hawaii (especially through Lilo and Stitch) he got included as well. Don't worry, come June 1st all will be back to normal (until F&W starts anyway).

Yes, unfortunately, you are stuck with Elvis and the Beach Boys until the festival ends. It's just not the same walking into the main entrance and hearing beach tunes.

We were there the other day and heard the music you're talking about. Hated it!!! Just simply hated it! It completely destroys the atmosphere of Epcot, IMHO.

Others may like it, but we couldn't take it.

I guess this means I'm loading up the Zune with my EPCOT loops ...

I they did this last year during F&G and it drove me nuts becasuse I'd just taken all the WDW music loops off my Zune to load it up with cartoons for the kiddies. I can't be in EPCOT with out the music; it seems wrong somehow.

At least it's only the entrance BGM that is different. The Future World/Innoventions Plaza BGM and all of the World Showcase BGMs are the same as always.
