When & WHY did they remove the EPCOT SIGN ?

If you are referring to the wand over Spaceship Earth then they removed it about July into September. They did it to rebuild EPCOT to its former glory. Although any wand threads usually end in a flame war, so from the words of one of the fantastic four "Flame On"!

It was because it was an eyesore and belonged at a fair. Epcot management and finally realized it after seven years. Spaceship Earth was never meant to be covered in stars and have a Mickey Mouse wand attached to it.

The sign originally said 2000 for the milenium celebration and was supposed to be removed after that year but due to financial difficulties they changed the 2000 to epcot and now 7 years later removed it for the 25th anniversary to restore epcot to its orginal form.
