Epcot sign on Spaceship Earth missing

I just got the latest issue of Disney Magazine (fall 2002) and browsed through the pictoral history of Epcot's past 20 years. I noticed the article failed to mention the "2000" sign above SE or its more permanent "Epcot" replacement. There's not one single picture with the sign. I wonder if the editors thought it wasn't a significant enough face lift to mention or they just plain don't like the thing and this was their way of showing it. You'd think there'd be a picture of it SOMEWHERE. Or am I just reading too much into it?

Probably reading too much into it...If it was on the history of the geosphere, the tower above it has little to do with the sphere itself :)

Probably because the people editing it know what was better.

I like how the current resort tv loop still includes scenes from Horizons. Isn't that a truth in advertising issue?

Ya, I knew I saw some old horizons in there, doesn't surprise me though, they'll use anything to get people into Epcot.

They also still advertise HIStA as "NEW"........

Not to mention they still show clips from Legend of the Lion King and Country Bear Vacation Hoedown....

There is a ton of stock footage that was shot. Stock footage is not that easy to update. Personally, I like the Epcot sign and the Sorceror's hand. I think it adds to something that is original to Disney.

The new one is out? Cool, can't wait! :sohappy:

And is true that they run images of old rides in property? You'd think they'd be more careful.

I just checked the magazine's site. The bit about Country Bears, it is the movie Bears, right? Shame on Disney, for pushing it further, but they gotta do it, I guess.

I have to say Im a little disappointed, when I saw this title on the forum, I was thinking the sign was missing as in they took it down, or someone stole it or something, Lol. Darn.

That's a site I'd love to see.

Ha Ha!!! Sounds like something my friends and I would do! "Okay, I'll take the 'E' and you can have the 'C'" and so on... I'd put it between my womans' bathroom sign and "Main St" sign!

Right, yeah, I know, I just phrased it wrong... Sorry! What I meant was to ask if the bit in the magazine is about the movie bears and not the ride bears, but still meaning Country Bears.

I don't think this looks any better...

Oh...well, that makes more sense...sorry:) Judging by the website (since I don't have my copy yet) I'd say that they're talking about the Country Bears (Movie)...trying to hype it up a little more....

I think they used pictures of only the sphere itself, so you wouldn't think the wand was part of it. Some people who have never been or even heard of Epcot may think the wand is a new permanent addition. It's probably also true about the stock photography. The publisher may not have had enough photos of the sphere with the wand at press time.

Definitely a possibility, but now you've got me thinking. :)

When I first posted this thread, I wondered if I was reading too much into it. But since then, I noticed the magazine's cover features a photo of Mickey and SE. It's obviously an outdated shot because the wand and sign are nowhere in sight. I just find it fishy that they'd use an outdated shot when they've had a whole year and a half to locate any current publicity shots. Plus, for a photo as big as a cover shot for their feature article no less, I think they would have snapped their own photo (they do for the articles inside the mag).

I just think it's too weird they would neglect such a significant thing. I mean, they face-lifted a world-famous icon that represents and entire park. That's big news, too big for them to omit. That's why I think they're trying to say something.

Heading for the great escape.
Or perhaps they are so badly informed that they were unaware of any changes to Spaceship earth. Or possibly that just happened to be the shot that the picture editor preffered.

But no lets go for the its a hidden sign (no pun intended ) that there going to take it down because a vocal minority happen to dislike the thing. Shock horror probe........
