Epcot remake....

It looks like the possibility of an Epcot complete revamp is back, and i wanted to pose an interesting thought and have an official thread for it: Almost like a venn diagram, what is your dream new Epcot, what do you think that Disney would do realisticly, and what is the intersection of the two? (I know, it will be quite small...)

Also, this is my first post here on WDWmagic! Thanks everyone! I'm not really new to the site though, as i would still often read the forums...

I will keep a healthy dose of skepticism on the scope of this if it even comes to fruition, but what I would desire more than anything else are original attractions, things not based off of an existing IP. This is very unlikely given the track record of what has been made or changed in recent years, but I do remain hopeful.

(Also seems I'll join you on the first time post thing.)

I wish Disney would look at how Busch Gardens Williamsburg made their park and follow some of their ideas. The World is cool, but not much to do back there other than to eat and drink. If you want the kids to be interested in the back side, you need to give them incentive!! We need rides, and better shows than the 360 movies.

As for the front....I'm at a loss. Captain EO needs a bomb to go off in it after hours, and the empty building next to test track is just a shame. I really hope some imagineers can figure out what to do with it though!

EPCOT is my favorite park, but I am still very confused with it's purpose. It's definitely NOT the Experimental Prototype City of Tomorrow.

The Fitzgerald thread had this, but I hope it doesn't evolve into arguing whether old rides are dated and should come back or not.

They NEED to update Energy Adventure.

They NEED to re-do Journey into Imagination. I know EO is dated but it's the least of their problems. Replace it at some point. What about that new Inside Out Pixar movie?

They SHOULD re-do The Living Seas but I have to figure they won't. So, I don't know with that one.

And honestly, Test Track is a tiny bit disappointing now.

They're already going to put in a new Soarin'. I'd personally love a new queue or at least a better looking one.

Replace Circle of Life (or move it to Animal Kingdom). It's not bad, just a bit tired. Something new and more impressive could go in there.

Do SOMETHING attraction-wise with Wonders of Life.

Use the Oddyssey (or however it's spelled) and throw the princesses or character dining in there. Give Akershus to Anna and Elsa (which would sell out I'm sure. Please let's not argue about whether you like the movie or not. It makes sense for a lot of reasons) or just have it be regular dining.

Can't they use the Millenium Village for the Festival Center? Do they use that now for anything?

They should also plant some gosh darn trees.

Remove the canopy in Future World (and demolish that former pin station while they're at it)

I love the flowers they have there but remove them and actually restore the water feature France (pretty sure it's France, but there are many other fountains, even in MK, that have been replaced as would be flower beds)

I also want unique attractions in World Showcase. Put in a rapids ride in Canada. Put in SOMETHING in the UK (don't they already have a showbuilding?). Put the Rhine River Cruise in Germany (again, they already have a showbuilding). Expand Italy with a gondola attraction.

Just throwing some ideas out there. There's a LOT that could be done with Epcot.

I agree with much of what you said. But also, I don't think that the World Showcase is in the clear, either. Maybe add another country (I hope the Venezuela pavillion, I just loved that concept art and attractions in it), and at least 3 more current countries need rides, or attraction-like experiences.

Yeah, they can throw in Switzerland with the Matterhorn or add some sort of dragon inspired coaster to China. Or something.... Also since they love the tour groups, replace Africa Outpost with Brazil and a rainforest zipline coaster.

I just hope they keep the original future world vibe and don't throw up a bunch of trees and waterways. I like the more cold future world 80s vibe. The area needs more neon and less brown and beige paint imho.

My wish list for an Epcot remake would be:

Focus on regaining the coolness factor of early EpCot Center.. more neon lights.. squared off trees.. more upside down waterfalls.. more light up pavements etc.

Fix the end tunnel on spaceship earth.. make that trip back down cool again.. put that old music back in there with the old swirly lights etc.

Return figment back to his original former glory.. make him the inquisical lovable figment of the 80s.. not the arrogant little #@! of his 90s self. Fix the upstairs of that place.. make it a place full of effects that will wow kids and adults of today.

Make the wonders of life pavilion into a Cosmos pavilion with rides based on the original and new series.. narration by neil degrasse tyson belongs in Epcot.

Add a country or two with some rides in there.. i'd love a russia pavilion because of the architecture but current events make that seem impossible.. but any new country would be nice.

World Showcase definately needs an update and more countries. I believe The Walt Disney Company needs to suck it up and realize they are no longer going to get sponsors for new countries to foot the bill for these new additions. Really.....when was the last time a country was added - Epcot only has 2 "lands".
Future World is tough - EO has to go - Imagination needs more imagination (with Figment). The Land still works - but not sure how Soaring fits its theme. The Seas is a little odd with the Nemo overlay but it works for families.
Universe needs a new first and last act (miss the original RADCO screen for the preshow). Test track is what it is - when it is running - way to many e-stops. Mission could be expanded.
How about a weather pavilion or homes of the future.
Still liked Horizons and World of Motion - and what was wrong with Wonders of Life - of course- no sponsor.

I pretty much defer to H.W. Wilson on the Epcot refresh:

http://idealbuildout.blogspot.com/2012/12/epcot-center-renewed.html
--Japan gets an omnimover, using mostly the existing castle, that presents AA scenes reviewing Japanese history (in the classic EPCOT style)
--The winding alleyways of Morocco lead past Marrakesh to a fortress courtyard, marking the entrance to an adventure ride.
--UK has two attractions added: a rotating AA show based on Dickens’ greatest works and a large indoor arcade and showspace themed to London’s classical facades. This would house a ride-tour of Britain’s history/lands.

And what is S.W. Wilson's plan to renew World Showcase?:
"Daaaaark riiiiiiiides!..." :geek:

First I'll start with my "pie in the sky" some of this is probably asking a hair much but here goes.
1. I'd like to see the current illumination show moved to the front gate fountain and have it run all day long as the guests enter.
2. Replace the current illuminations with the thunder over Louisville show
3. Gut spaceship earth and somehow fit a world class roller coaster inside on the scale of the Incredible Hulk but keep the current narration.
4. Update soarin so that it inverts.
5. Make it so the living seas with nemo ACTUALLY goes underwater and serve shrimp as you're riding.
6. Bring back the original journey into imagination but speed it up 10 times faster including with chipmunk voices.
7. Change all the ice water fountains to dispense frozen slushy coke.
8. Reopen the odyssey restaurant as a survivor tv show themed buffet restaurant that only serves rice and water but at true Disney prices of $50 per person.
9. Swap test track so that all the boring stuff in the beginning is outside and the high speed portion is indoors and give spectators paintball guns to shoot at the cars as they go by.
10. Actually put something interesting in inoventions.
11. Get rid of every movie in world showcase and replace them with a REAL attraction.
:D

First of all, thanks to everyone who responded so far! Second, I was thinking earlier and have a new question to propose: for the world showcase, where I personally think needs more to do, would you rather have available spaces take up new countries or nice rides for the existing countries?

I know everyone's craving for new countries, but I just don't think that's super likely, so I'd say flesh out the other countries first with rides that make sense for their location.

Alot of great suggestions but it really starts with IMAGINATIONS. The changes at EPCOT need that 'spark of CREATIVITY' that comes from a renewed focus on the building of everything that comes from the minds looking to the future, the fun of spontaneity, on the spot creation, that Phigment of our imaginations that must be opened. Hence a serious start and redo of that becomes the stepping point for a new EPCOT. Hope they figure that out first, then the hope of the future can be brighter and more 'ILLUMINATING'.

Without getting into details about attractions, here are some ideas I had for the pavilions I might make if doing a complete revamp. I started thinking about what categories of technology are currently relevant and settled on an -ation theme.

Imagination - restored to its former glory, but not an exact replica. Sponsored by Apple?
Information - in the location of TT. Sponsored by Google.
Conservation - formerly The Land. Sponsored by ADM? International Paper?
Exploration - where MS is. Sponsored by Virgin Airlines / Virgin Galactic.
Recreation - how technology will enhance our leisure activities. Built around the Seas, but expanded and shifted in focus. Sponsored by Sony? Honda?
Occupation - replaces Energy pavilion. Showcasing technology that will revolutionize the way we work. Sponsored by HP.
Innovation - Replaces Innoventions. Various exhibits with various sponsors.
Communication - Spaceship Earth. Sponsored by AT&T again or Verizon.
