Well Future world would be the name of it. But their seems to be a rumor that it is changing to discovery world or land. Not really sure besides what I have read on this site.

I really hope that doesn't happen. I am not against a name change, but I hope they (1) keep the old name involved somehow - like Future Worlds Fair or at least renaming part of it Future and (2) come up with something original. The whole "land" thing belongs in the MK Parks, not others. Even more so, Discoveryland is DLP's Tomorrowland. Give the park its due, I guess.

I must say that I definetly agree with many of the posters here that EPCOT has had major improvements in the past few years. I really enjoy many of the attractions, and while they may not be as educational as they once were they still provide us with a direction on where our future may take us. I'll try to explain this as best as I can but forgive me if my words don't accuratly describe what my brain is thinking. IMO The FW of old taught something that was measurable (energy, living seas, the land... those are the only ones that I remember cause I was only 6 when I went and didn't get back to EPCOT until 2002), todays FW seems to be more about inspiration (TT, MS, Soarin). Personally, from the way that I remembered visiting FW and the way that I know it today, I would learn a whole lot more in today's FW... not because of what the park teaches but because of what it inspires. When I first visited FW you learned what the attraction offered and went home. With today's FW you are inspired about the attraction and it makes you want to learn more about whatever inspired you on the attraction. So for me I think that the inspiration the park does a better job of providing (on most attractions we'll leave Imagination out of this lol) is more important than the education it used to.

NAS...I mean illmaticsoldier....LOL  . Epcot stands for Experimental Prototype City Of Tomorrow...or it was supposed to be according to accounts of Walt's vision.

That is Experimental Prototype Community of Tomorrow, but you were close.

I do think Epcot is back on track. Obviously, there are lots of elements of the original park that I wish could come back in some way, but I think as of perhaps the last year or two (mostly post-Soarin'), the resurgence is there. I think the transition period, especially between 99-2003, was very rocky. It was unclear where the park was going, and sometimes replacement ideas were very poor (see the IMAG "fiasco"). However, Epcot is now developing a somewhat different image altogether and has support for it. It has become more the "fun showcase" of ideas instead of the look to the future. Sort of a "Future Worlds Fair" of sorts, and I think that works. The one thing that is still a bit "at risk" is the use of "fun technology" instead of fun for fun's sake. The character invasion could be a major threat to that, but we will need to wait until TLS especially to see how it works. They can be a great vehicle to the technology/concepts as long as they don't become the focus.

Overall, I think you guys missed the "rocky years." I personally think Epcot does not have the granduer and inspiration of EPCOT Center (with the exception of I:ROE - that show truly invokes the old spirit fully). However, the new attractions have their own flavor of fun, "in the middle of the action of how the technology works"-ion. The latter appeals to a much broader group of people and ages, something EPCOT Center unfortunately did not appeal to. I do think there is a place for the former in Epcot, and maintaining and updating SSE is a great way of doing so (as is maintaining and updating World Showcase). The timelessness of hope and inspiration is pretty cool, and having a ride in a giant silver globe isn't half bad either! That's my $0.02 anyway! :p

As I said in my "doomed from the beginning" post, the park was built on a failed idea.....a cool idea, but not one that could be maintained.

World's Fairs are neat.....but they are not open long enough to get dated.

Q.How does a permanent park maintain future-looking relevance?
A. Through constant renovation and building.

Q.How does a 365-day per year park keep constant renovations going?
A. By having "too many attractions", whereas they can afford to keep some always closed and under renovation without ticking off guests.

Q.How does a company finance this?
A. They can't.
