While I was there recently I couldn't figure this out. What used to be in the building across from mouse gears next to the Soda store that currently holds a place to meet characters. The building seems pretty big to me but I can't remeber what used to be there?

It used to be a Pizza Counter-service location. It was closed a long time ago, and then finally completely remodeled to become character connection.

I could be wrong, but I believe you're referring to Pasta Piazza!

That particular spot in CommuniCore/Innoventions West has housed a restaurant until recent years. From park opening until 1994, it was the Sunrise Terrace Restaurant. Once CommuniCore transitioned into Innoventions, it was split into Fountainview Espresso & Bakery (which is more or less still there, now serving ice cream instead) and Pasta Piazza Ristorante. Pasta Piazza closed in 2000 and sat there empty for a few years, just used every once in a while for things like the International Food & Wine Festival, until it became EPCOT Character Connection a couple of years ago and then redone into the EPCOT Character Spot that's there now. (Yuck.)

The rest of that quadrant has housed various exhibits over the years, Expo Robotics back when it was CommuniCore, and since it became Innoventions, the Walt Disney Imagineering Labs, the EPCOT 25th Anniversary Gallery, and of course Ice Station/Club Cool.

Ahhh.. originally as MMC said it was Sunrise Terrace, half the reason there was never a big wait at Stargate (Odyssey was the other)

Is it just me, or does that Sunrise Terrace sign look way less outdated than the current Fountainview and even Electric Umbrella signs from the mid-90s?

Ahh I do miss it in Pasta Piazza, I remember the lovely Pizzas that used to be in the shape of Mickey ears now all of the Pizzas are much smaller and you have to head over to out side Test Track to get one.

Eh, there is a point there. Personally, the Fountainview and Electric Umbrella signs are just a bit too gaudy or... "sci-fi-ish," for my taste, which is why I think they seem outdated. I guess the cleaner and simpler the font, the better it adjusts with the times.

There's just something very 90s about them. The Sunrise Terrace sign is very simple and sleek, done in such a way that it could be deemed very identifiable with EPCOT Center, and looks much better and (most importantly with any sign) easier to read than the current Fountainview, Electric Umbrella, and even Pasta Piazza signs above. I think we've come to find that clean and simple works best for EPCOT in the long-term, as opposed to shoehorning a bunch of crap into it.

.
It is better to have them in the character spot than walking around Future World.:animwink:
