As of 11:00AM, the Epcot monorail was/is down. Monorail Red was parked in the Epcot station and was powered down. There is currently bus service between the TTC and Epcot. Anyone know why?

I am not familiar with the layout of the monorail system. Is there a website I can go to that will give me a map. Thanks for all your help.

When we were there the 1st week of December we rode in front with the pilot twice on the line from TTC to Epcot. Halfway thru the journey there was a an area where a trench had been dug leading to a transformer. The pilot told us that there had been a lightning strike previously (didn't say when) that took out the transformer. The trenching was for additional grounding and lightning protection. Perhaps there was work being done for this.

Monorail beam at Epcot went down last night as well. I know, since i am a bus driver and we had to run the Red route ( Epcot to TTC ). But it shuts down for various reasons. high winds, lightning, mechanical failure of a train. But with the bad weather recently, it wouldn't surprise me if it was shut down due to wind or lightning.

There was a fire in a transformer in the Westgate Electrical room at Epcot yesterday, there was several things without power including the monorail.

I haven't seen a map online, but basically think of two concentric rings (like a bullseye). One of those rings goes clockwise around the lake in front of Magic Kingdom. The other goes coutner clockwise. Both go from Magic Kingdom to the TTC. Another loops from TTC to EPCOT.

EDIT:
Here's a very stylized (not to scale or even correct shape) layout of both the mono tracks and the WDW railroad as well...

If anyone has an update as to whether or not it's back up and running it would be appreciated. I was planning on parking at Epcot tomorrow and taking the monorail to MK and then back to Epcot to finish my day. I'm not really wanting to take the bus, so I may park at MK and drive if this is going to be a lengthy issue.

Thanks for any updated info

It is very unlikely that it would be down over a day.

TOTGuy, your avatar made me laugh out loud. I've seen that pic before, but it never fails to make me laugh. Especially since I had sushi for lunch.

If you want to check out the monorails google earth it, its pretty cool you can follow the tracks all the way back to the service center and find a picture of a monorail traveling.

Next time i am on google I will see if i can get a link to an image showing part of it.
