EPCOT going CRAZY!

For several weeks/months now, i've heard rumors of EPCOT changing Spaceship Earth!

I bigger travesty i've never heard.

EPCOT is very obviously not what Walt Disney had in mind, but it is what it is, fabulous none the less.

Spaceship Earth is the last bastian of Walts dream left in EPCOT, it is not the Experimental Prototype Community of Tomorrow, but that is what the ride is based on.

The idea of communication evolving, and how it will evolve in our world, into one large Community of Tomorrow.

Changing it to a rollercoaster? Are they kidding, you might as well change Pirates of the Carribbean into a walk through arcade of Playstations and Gamecubes!

Read the threads on this subject.
Spaceship Earth is not turning into a coaster.
The theme will remain.
All that is changing is th ride system and show.

Yes it is, but that's what it is designed to be.

My point was, you can't change something classic like, POTC or Spaceship earth to something that is the complete opposite of what it was intended to be.

It's definatly time for change in Spaceship earth. All of the "future" technologies showcased in the attraction are already here, and will be a thing of the past very soon. The ride system is also in need of fixing, it was very loud and bumpy when I was on it last month. I can't wait to see it changed.

I agree that it needs to be updated, they can gut the hole thing but when it’s rebuilt, make it in the same vain, update the ride sys make it something cool (don’t know what) not a roller costar, I’m sick of everything having to go a million miles an hour, I enjoy slowing down and going through a dark ride a nice leisurely pace, learning, looking at the detail of the sets and animatronics. I love test track but I miss world of motion, ill probably like M:S but I miss horizons, we went from looking to interactive with both, I hope the don’t do the same with SSE, and make into a roller costar, and you’re a communication flying through wire a light speed, updated it make it better, don’t make it worse, like JIYI I hope they learn from that mistake.

Exactly! Update the ride, just don't change the core of the ride.

Who needs speed for everything??

What is the point in another ride that goes 65 mile per hour and makes you sick a little dizzy?

Horizons was a great ride, it was something to relax and watch, something to learn from and marvel at....

update the technology mentioned in Spaceship Earth, but don't make it a big looping (grab your stomach) rollercoaster

It's not going to be a coaster, and it probably won't be doing 65 mph. SE as we know it has had a great run. I'm all for updating it.

Disney NEEDS to update it. When was the last time you saw an average tourist (ie NOT a Disney freak) walk off that ride with a huge smile and saying, "That was awesome."? Right now, you can see that happening every day over in Future World East. I think it's time that Epcot's icon regains that ability.

They cant change space ship earth to a roller coster. Who in there right mind would do that its a classic its what epcot is all about its identity. Geh why dont they change universe of energy into a coster that wont be missed and a coster would actually get me to ride that ride.

The ride system will probably change, but it won't be a coaster. Imagine a ride system imbetween Pooh and Indiana Jones, and you probably have it. Imagine Spiderman. You see?

It's not that bad, and it could be quite cool and very well done.

i don't believe i've EVER seen anyone get off SSE and say it's "awesome"...not even in it's 'prime'. same goes for HM and PotC. and as for it being loud and bumpy...i don't recall it being any more so than HM. besides...BTM and Space M are loud and bumpy, but nobody ever complains about those.
i dunno, i just kinda feel like people (in general) have singled out an attraction and are picking it to death. but when you compare it to other attractions around the parks, it's no worse than anything else. besides, once/if they finally do change SSE, they'll just be another attraction to pick on...something else that's suddenly become 'outdated'.
and, personally, i'm not seeing how SSE is outdated. how can the advancement of communication become outdated? and you can't say the ride system itself is outdated (maybe the tracks and motors, etc.) because dark rides will never be outdated...they may be becoming extinct, but certainly not outdated. don't get me wrong, i'm all for progress, and i'm all for updating. but sutle updates...update the animatronics, the scenes, the cars, the voice-over, maybe even the music...but don't let one of the few remaining dark rides go down. why can't they just enhance it? and ok, maybe they're tired of always updating...but what do they think's going to happen once a more technologically advanced ride system comes out?
i'm just seeing what Disney's latest work has been in terms of 'updates', and it ain't the Disney i once knew. i just don't want to see Future World...or Discoveryland, i should say (i still think that's such a stupid name...Discovery World sounds a lot better) turned into Disney's thrill park.

I to love this ride but in June when I was there I felt it needed a change,the future they are talking about in the ride is here now with the internet and cell phones.In 1982 this was high teck future stuff,keep the animatronics and the basic story but update is needed.

I agree. The ride needs to be updated to show what the future of communicatios technology will bring, but it should still show the progression from past to present.

All the things that are "future" technology in the ride I use almost everyday in my work and at home.

It needs to go beyond the cutting edge and make predictions like it did in the 80's -- most if not all of which have come true.

They aren't taking the sphere down so it will remain the centerpiece of Epcot but the ride definitley needs a change and I don't condemn a ride until I ride it so I won't put the upcoming change down. I'm all for new and I'll wait to see what it is.

Cool down.... NOTHING of a roller coaster has been confirmed...

Only the inside is going to be changed...
Just wait and see... you'll be happy with the outcome...
