EPCOT Character Spot Smell?

I am sorry if this has come up in another post, but I haven't seen it anywhere.

Last week I took the family to WDW for 6 days. We pretty much visit once a year now. I mention that because in 2013 I noticed a bad smell in one of the EPCOT buildings. Specifically, the building that houses the Mickey Character Spot and also the Cool Spot for Coke where you can try drinks from around the world. I thought, "Oh well, a toilet must have overflowed or something. They'll fix it."
Well, it has now been a little over a year later and the smell is still there, if not worse. I mean, it smells like multiple toilets have overflowed in there and they never cleaned the carpets. I usually never notice this kind of stuff, but this is pretty obvious.
I love WDW and this didn't ruin my day at EPCOT at all, but it did make me curious. Has anyone else visited EPCOT recently and noticed this smell? Has Disney acknowledged that one of their buildings smells like a sewer?

There is a sewer gas odor that constantly lingers in Mouse Gears. I smell it every time, on every trip. I'm guessing you're smelling the same thing. They must have a floor drain trap that dries up often and lets gas come up into the spaces.

From what I recall they were putting down new carpet in the Innoventions west open corridor...Doubt that's it..

Umm, I trapsed through Mouse Gears on a rainy (and flooding) evening on my way to Japan for dinner and didn't notice any unusual smells....

Another place I will not walk thru anymore is the Holiday Shop in Downtown Disney...smells really moldy and triggers allergies that I didn't even know I had!

The smell comes from the tunnels underneath the inno buildings... We have trash compactors under there that we use to throw the leftovers from electric umbrella and other places... Trust me, it smells worse down below.

Thanks for the info - yuck. I will let TubaGeek know it wasn't me. :D

You guys smelled that, too? The last time I walked through it smelled like paint like they freshly painted somewhere nearby. But, the sewage smell? Not so much. I just recognize there's an odor when you walk near the Epcot Character Spot.

Yeah... It's always stinky there for some reason.

It has been for quite a few years now. Sometimes it's not so bad, but other times, it's unbearable.

I was talking to a friend of mine who's an avid Disney parks person (she goes 5-8 times/yr) and she's noticed the smell, too. She thinks it might be the irrigation (sprinkler system) nearby? Could be. The water they use down here to water the lawn does smell as they bring it up from the ground. So, for those of you who are saying it smells like sewage. That's what it probably is. The water from the ground down here smells like sulfur and if you have well water going into your house, you better make sure you have a great well water filtration system. Ugh!
