do you think the fountain is the best first look at the EPCOT courtyard that Disney could display for visitors. What would be a better first impression of the EPCOT center, of course the ball(space ship earth) is a major icon but do you think something more techy should be there in the courtyard center in place of the fountain?

The fountain - when working properly - is fine.

The canopies and pin store however are not.

Epcot Center is no more.

The crappy Leave a Legacy tombstones are just fine to introduce the park that exists right now.

The last time I looked at them close up they all look worn/washed out, how long are they required to keep them there?

They looked like that when they were brand new. It's almost criminal that they charged people for that mess. However, those that bought into it saw what they were getting and were still foolish enough to spend money on it. I think the time is almost up for that obligation, but, they will not be in any hurry to change anything until all the rest of the stuff has been done.

The Leave a Legacy is fine, leading up to Spaceship Earth.

Spaceship earth isn't a major icon, it is the icon of Epcot.
