Epcot After Hours Tasting - New event

Building a wholly immersive themed land with unique merchandise and food offerings seems to be the best way to increase revenue, right? Has any effort been more successful in achieving this than Cars Land or Phase 1 of Harry Potter?

If there is revenue in catering to Star Wars fans with disposable income, what is the delay in creating a Star Wars land in the Studios? Like Harry Potter it has a strong fan base of adults with disposable income. That's even more favorable than Cars Land, because the consumers will be adults rather than children. More importantly, it's an entity that adults will share with their kids.

We know it was teased at D23, and we know it's in the works in some capacity for California. The fact that earth hasn't moved yet is laughable. Yes, I want them to do it right, but they've had 24 1/2 years since the original Star Tours opened in MGM. It's safe to assume that the franchise is still popular and yet the only thing that's emerged since the D23 expo is a $1500 figurine.
Yes, yes, yes, a hundred times yes. What's the hold up. It's such a no brainer. Even in a place like this board where we can't agree on anything it's almost 100% unilaterally agreed to be a good idea. Probably that guy who hates the muppets doesn't want it, so 99% agreed.;).

From Touring plans, "Each of the 3 tequila samples is 1/2 oz, plus 1/2 oz mescal & 1/4 oz vodka." So still a fair amount of (high quality) booze in realistically less than 2 hours.

BTW, apparently 9 people in La Cava last night, so again, I don't see this is purely a cash grab.

If I'm reading this right (I'm assuming each tequila flight isn't actually tequila and mes and vodka??) then your basically getting three .5 oz pours, which is equal to a pretty standard single shot. The quality part is subjective.

OK, WDW's website now says the following:

"Admission to Epcot After Hours Wind Down costs just $35 per Guest—tax and gratuity not included—and comes complete with one (1) beverage and a delectable selection of light snacks."

So, I'm assuming that you are correct; the alcohol content of the three drinks in a "flight" total about the equivalent of an entire shot.

Also, according to Touring Plans, "Each tasting session will last approximately 30 minutes, and you may only choose ONE restaurant per evening. A different selection of beverages and appetizers will be offered at each participating location. For example, at La Cava you’ll receive a flight of 3 tequilas (blanco, reposado, añejo) and a trio of appetizers, including ceviche and tostadas. After your session, you will be allowed to stay in World Showcase until 11:00 p.m., though it is currently unclear what access you will be allowed to the pavilions during that time."

So, for $35/person, you get the equivalent of one drink, an appetizer, and the privilege of hanging out at the lounge you chose for a half-hour, at which point you can meander around a closed WS for another hour or so. According to what I've read, it's not the "hang out at this lounge for two hours and enjoy your drink until 11 pm" that a lot of people seem to be envisioning.

I don't say any of that to discourage anyone from doing it; it just seems like this is not quite what some here have in mind.

Come on we are paying what $4 for a soda at the parks, $7 for a burger....whats the issue with over overpriced booze :)

Here is a pic of my flight from San Angel, I want to say it was around $14 but it was a couple of years ago so I might be off in price.

It was awesome. :)

Lol...

Like I said at the bottom of my post, I wasn't saying any of that to discourage anyone from doing it. I was just trying to put more information out there so that people aren't blindly calling for an ADR and expecting to be able to sit around and drink for two hours for $35. Yes, the information about how much you're getting is on the website, but I only saw how long each ADR is expected to last by going to Touring Plans, an external website, so not everyone is going to know that when they book (assuming that the 30-minute estimate is accurate... although the author sounded pretty confident in their information).

FWIW, I won't be paying $4 for a soda either. I'll be getting cups of ice water as I need them, or bringing in bottled water.

$35 + tax + tip= what? $35 + 20% tip would be $42, plus the tax on the $35... so you're looking at, what, $45/person when it's all said and done? I do think that is a bit steep for something that only lasts for a half hour, especially given that after that you're back in the same situation as people who chose to not pay the $35 and linger around WS with their drinks and snacks that they bought right before Illuminations.

I'm not knocking you or anyone else for booking and enjoying this; if that's what suits you, go for it. I've said that multiple times already and I still stand by it.

Not everyone on this forum has to agree on everything.

Oh no doubt it's expensive, but heck like I said much eariler on the price of popcorn and soda at the local movie theater is much more out of line than this IMO and I always buy that when I go see a movie. :)

I would expect we will spend $100 or so on this. Again it's something I can do once a year, it's worth it to me for that reason alone.

We will see if it's popular or not enough to stick around or if WDW pulls the plug on it. I can see them somehow linking it to Illuminations maybe if they need to drive more traffic towards it, much the same way that they do at DHS for Fantasmic with ADRs.

Flight = $15
App = $12
Right to stay after hours = $8

I'm not saying these are good values compared to the real world, but at Disney prices it isn't a bad deal.

They may allow you to walk around a closed WS but I would imagine most people will stay where they are until they are ready to leave. There would be nothing to stop people from ordering more drinks and staying until 11PM.

I agree that this is perfectly in line with Disney pricing so not really a "bad deal" for Disney. Like I said, I was just trying to post more information because there seem to be a lot of people around here (myself included) who didn't have the full picture of how Disney seems to picture this working. Some of us had no clue what a "flight" of drinks would entail beyond seeing a picture of three glasses with liquid in them and not much of a way of gauging their size. I've seen several people asking about being able to "lounge hop," which is not going to be allowed; like any other ADR, your ADR is for the time and place you booked and nothing else. I'm sure that, as long as you're buying more drinks, the people working will not be rushing you out the door, but I can also see how this could easily turn into one of those things where people get offended because the waitstaff doesn't pay them as much attention if they're not buying above and beyond the package deal (after all, if the event is fully booked, they'll want to make sure that the people who are spending more are happy)... so it's important for people to have as much information as possible going into this.

I do think it'll be interesting to see how the Wind Downs effect EMH crowds in WS. Maybe that will work in my favor, as some who would be staying for EMH may view this completely differently from me and would prefer to be able to sit at a lounge and be served instead of buying food and drinks from kiosks. ;)

I would guess we will have at least one more round if not more. We are doing SR and wine is the flight.....I had the worst hangover of my life on wine...so I did indeed learn my lesson to go easy when I am drinking wine :)

Are they doing this on Friday nights during EMHs? I thought the front page said Sun through Thurs nights.

I have no clue. It does show pictures of what you actually get though.
It helped explain La Cava. I never was sure what you actualy got but now it seems there you get:
Shot of vodka
Shot of mezcal
Tequila flight
Tostada de Tinga
Ceviche Acapulqueño
Tlacoyo de Puerco

Now if we could just get the same coverage at the other venues.
