Enormous Crowds!

It's crazy to me how much time off kids get from school in the US. Where I live in Ontario, kids get a long weekend in October for Thanksgiving, then nothing again til Christmas for 2 weeks.

After January they get a long weekend in February and a week in March for spring break.

…but that includes the mandatory 8 week hockey/ice fishing camps, right? 🇨🇦🦫

We were there from the 6th to the 17th. The crowds were insane everyday!! Mostly at MK and EPCOT. One Saturday night we went to dinner at the WL and on the boat ride back to the MK, we saw the fireworks. Once we docked, instead of going to catch our bus to POFQ, we thought we’d go to the MK and catch a few rides. Well we got in and at the end of Main St near the Plaza and Casey’s, there was a HUGE jam up of people. You could absolutely not move at all. I’ve never seen it like that. Not to the point where everything just stopped. We waited about 10 minutes and after not moving even a few feet, we decided to leave. It was actually kinda scary.

Many schools in the US have between 180 and 190 mandatory days of school the same as in Canada they just fall differently and some go by hours where they have longer days but less of them. There are a few states with a lower number of mandatory days or hours
Kids in Colorado have a lot of time off. CO only has 160 days of school annually.

Comparing when breaks are tells you nothing. You have to compare total days in the classroom. Some districts start their year as early as late July

We were in Magic Kingdom on September 27th. We made the mistake of going on a day that was 9am-10pm. Maybe "mistake" isn't the word so much, but it was sandwiched between two days of 9am-6pm where Mickey's Halloween party was happening. So my guess is people were all thinking the same thing and go a day that is 4 hours longer. So it was very busy on the day we went. We still did pretty much all of the core of the park, but we didn't get on everything. However, someone at our resort went the next day and said things were pretty much walk-ons. So maybe the key is going to MK the day of the Halloween parties.

Either way, we picked September thinking it was a slower time of year. Maybe it still is, I don't know, because Universal was fine crowd-wise both days we were there. Normal. Maybe we just picked a busy day for MK.

Last year we did this.
Mk closed at 6.
We were there at rope drop. We did all the rides and then some.
Splash was still open .did it twice to say goodbye.

That day we rode SM 8 times. 4 of them were in a row. It was the first time our oldest son was tall enough.
It was bliss.

Kinda sucks to leave early as we love the night lights. But damn we rode it all.

If you don't kind missing the fireworks it's TOTALLY worth it.

The go to advice for this time of year is to avoid MK on the couple of non party days every week like the plague.

It's been pretty much proven that kids learn better with more frequent but shorter "vacations". Summer break being 2.5 months is what really stunts learning development. Two weeks off in spring, summer, fall, and winter would be better.
Don’t they also get the long summer break? I would also support year around school with a max 2 weeks off, but I also think students and teachers should have more school days in general.

I know a few teachers that would never go for that as a schedule. Only two weeks off during the hot humid summer ? That will never happen.

Party days are the best time to do MK because a lot of people avoid it thus making for very low crowds. Reminds me ofthe old EMH days where one park had extra hours. We avoided those parks on those days or park hopped.

So when we go back in a year or two (Lord willing) that would be what I'd do as well. Might do the 4-day hopper pass, do MK on a 9-6pm day, then maybe do Animal Kingdom and then pick a day to hop back to MK a day it closes at 10pm. Get some extra stuff in and see the fireworks. Double up on some rides you did the previous day. That would be the plan, because yeah that 9-6pm day everyone is thinking the same thing and that is golden.

It really was.....do you the real crazy thing.
The longest wait for SM was 13mins....really it was more of a walk on.

People were still buying genie plus.......
Walk on rides everywhere and we could hear and see people making their genie plus selections.

Makes you wonder?

We always do MK twice, we thought why not.
It turned out to be a gold day indeed.

I realized Genie + was going to be a waste of money on even a BUSY day, let alone a day with several walk ons.
