Enormous Crowds!

Does anyone know what the cause of this huge spike in attendance is? Is there some sort of new discount? I can understand a gradual increase in the number of cars due to less people flying, and I could understand Columbus Day, but the crowds have still barely died down! Nemo was almost an hour long wait earlier!

I believe this is due to "Fall Break".
Exactly! Where we live in Hawaii, schools were out last week and this week. Had I remembered my son gets Fall Break, I totally would’ve scheduled my trip from last month to this week and taken him. Oh well…next Disney trip will be to TDL in June!

When I was there around the 24th of September for a few days, Under the Sea was an 80 minute wait. There is usually no one at that ride. That was before the afternoon. But, I was told it was due to fall break for a lot of schools. We don't have kids, only nieces and nephews, so we didn't know that. At a lot of the parks, there were very large crowds during that time period also.

It's half-term/Autumn break in the UK next week too, so some people will have taken their kids out of school and gone a week early.

A lot of schools use more of a trimester schedule these days…so this is likely a soft spot in the school calendar.

You see that kinda effect in February too more and more.

The reality is - October sucks. Used to be great…then millions got the same “unique idea” 🤪

lol, when are kids in school?? We're getting ready for what is known as "Jersey week" although it's jumped across the bridge to Philly
Well…summers were there due to farming and avoiding heat in schools

So not much of a thing anymore

And if you look at it honestly…99% of kids will never get 3 months off in their life after school…so it doesn’t make any sense from a routine standpoint

Test scores showing a lack of proficiency in major subjects. Students graduating with no understanding of basic things in order to get even a low skilled job. Just keep dumbing down each generation.
Our school board is considering going to a 4 day school week due to a lack of bus drivers. And this is after they just completed constructing a multi million dollar HS that they pushed through. Less time in school isn’t helping anyone other than guaranteeing a work force for amusement parks and fast food companies.

Judging by how fast AI is progressing, and the loss of brick and mortar.. that might be all that's left for the majority of the work force regardless of education.

Crowds …. And why are some experiences with normally low waits now 1hour+?

Why has Buzz Lightyear’s wait increased so dramatically?

Might be a bit more than my generation….

My generation always feared the dreaded “word problem” in math…..

Lack of proficiency isn’t exactly new

And, back in the day….”my vcr is still blinking 12:00” was a generational theme song….

Kids!
What the devil’s wrong with these kids today?
Kids!
Who could guess the they would turn out that way!
Why can’t they be like we were,
Perfect in every way?
What’s the matter with kids?
What’s the matter with kids?
What’s the matter with kids today?
- Bye Bye Birdie, roughly 1960, lyrics by Lee Adams

We were there around that same time, from 9/24-9/30. Compared to what it was like when we were there in December, 2019, we didn't think the crowds were all that bad. However, I don't think I will ever again see crowds as low as they were when I did a solo trip near the start of the COVID pandemic during the summer of 2020. Most of the rides were walk-on, or no more than about a 5 minute wait.

When I read this thread the other day I looked at the wait times and even Swiss Family Treehouse had a posted waiting time of 15 minutes. A wait for Swiss Family Treehouse???

I will be doing another week-long solo trip, starting on 10/29. I hope the crowds have gone back to normal by then.

and my personal favorite - Changes

I watch the ripples change their size
But never leave the stream
Of warm impermanence
And so the days float through my eyes
But still the days seem the same
And these children that you spit on
As they try to change their worlds
Are immune to your consultations
They're quite aware of what they're goin' through

Ch-ch-ch-ch-changes
Turn and face the strange
Ch-ch-changes
Don't tell them to grow up and out of it...

Time may change me
But I can't trace time.
David Bowie, Hunky Dori, came out in 1971.

And I'm sure a great many earler songs and poems have similar themes.

Test scores have been decreasing over the years as educators have added in "other" courses that are pushed into the curriculum, taking away valuable classroom time. And along with requiring/ demanding less and less from students to complete work, showing they have an understanding and concepts of material, they slip more and more. Todays kids because of time lost due to Covid and changes to education, they are much worse off today than ever.

Our district went with 4 days this year. I've never been so happy to be beyond that phase of life (youngest is in grad school).
