Enjoying the day at Disney

The last time I was at the parks I noticed people on their phones. They had their family right there yet they were on the phone the entire time while they would wait on line. Chatting and what not. This did not happen once but all of the time. A young couple while waiting for Kali River rapids were each on their phones texting other people. They did not say one word to each other the whole time. There were even people texting on rides! Does that seem odd to anyone else? Shouldn't people be enjoying their time at Disney with the folks with them? Just seems odd. It is their business, but when I'm on a ride, for example, The Haunted Mansion, I do not want to see the glare of phones. Or in a show, when I'm behind them. That blue glare in a dark place is just annoying and takes away from the experience.

Well @ifuhadwings.Youve just brought up one of my pet hates.Mobile phones. Yes,I have a mobile but it stays back in Scotland.Iam on vacation with my DW & DS.Last year I don know how many times I had to dodge parents pushing strollers whilst texting. It's not just at Disney,Ive even had a girl walk off the pavement onto the road in front of me back home, lucky I was going about 10 mph.So yes I totally agree.P.S. I have to top up my mobile with $15.00 once a year.Thats how much I use it..Great for keeping in touch or emergencies only..Ok. My rants over.

Some one bumped me with their SUV yesterday while backing out of a parking space. She didn't look. She was texting. I was trying to leave the parking lot. I have a prepaid phone too.

One of the BIGGEST parts of my own vacation is leaving the ungodly tether that my own business has forced me to be attached to at the hip in the wall safe and turned off!!! I hate that normally at home I can be interrupted at any given time by customers or employees in need. I love what I do and that is why I started my own business but I can say without hesitation that the phone is the very last thing I want in the park with me. We go old-school in the parks...if we separate then we arrange to meet up at a set location at a set time. It worked when I was a kid and there is no reason it should not work now.

Onto the topic of rudeness. People have gotten too carried away with themselves, their lives and their ridiculously short attention spans and I get totally exasperated by it on a daily basis. They have no concept of the fact that their lives and conversations spill out into the public domain and we could care less about their discussions. For some reason people on phones seem to talk louder than they would to each other sitting side by side. Kids need to be taught that you can wait more than 10 minutes without needing to play Angry Birds or some such drivel. Engage in conversation, talk about what rides you would like to to that day, look at the birds or geckos running around but for goodness sake do something besides electronica!

I sound like the angry old man who keeps the baseballs that get hit into his yard but there you have it...my two pennies to rub together.

The only reason I bring a phone into the parks is if I am meeting up with someone...
Or calling Vince to tell him...I'm at DISNEY! Then hanging up and letting him curse me...

I saw this guy there with his wife and two daughters online at Peter Pan. He was laughing and chatting to someone on the phone. His little girls kept trying to hold his hand and get his attention. What a loud mouth jerk.

I'm too in awe to want to spend my time distracted by a phone...I never answer any calls by people trying to get in contact with me...and yes...hundreds..no thousands of people want to call me every day... I'm that popular... :D

Could not agree more. See it at work all the time with people too busy texting to get the jobs done. A co-worker and I were talking where one person was in a restroom stall simply texting and not, uh, doing anything else. I go on vacation and the phone is unanswered. I will check messages in the evening but, unless a true emergency is occurring, I don't call back. At WDW, I despise having to negotiate around someone who is shuffling along with his/her nose in the phone. I feel like grabbing and tossing their phone into a water feature.

Unfortunately, I carry mine because I own a business and need to take calls from clients. If I do, I make sure they are not when I am on a ride or in a show. Without them there would be no Disney trips. But I get your point, my daughter was looking at her phone constantly during our last trip till I said something to her. Then I got,"well I was just looking at the wait times for all the rides on the Disney app".

Oh...that's right...I do you use it at times to look at "Lines" but most of the time...I have my mind set on a ride and I don't mind waiting...
