employee issue advice

I was in the US Army and was honorably discharged due to medical reasons. I want to be a cop or police officer in the law enforcement field one day. I decided to then apply at disney for a security position as I had a lady friend at the time who worked in entertainment there a few years ago, and I was actually hired on a couple years ago.

Not that I was unhappy, and I actually thought I was doing fine, but they constantly said my performance was lackluster and I wasn't following safety protocols which I would be aghast to find out about, and the third time I was given an coaching which was about a few months ago, I was given an opportunity to apply for another position in which I agreed to do only because I am also going through school and I could use the money.

I then worked in Tomorrowland foods and I sometimes would rarely take ODV shifts, which in the beginning I adapted myself to like, but I never noticed how the food and beverage workers really work for their money dealing with tough situations.

Getting to the root of it, I was terminated on Monday after a problem that happened two weeks ago. Basically I was gonna be working the cotton candy carts, a half hour before my shift I was backstage smoking a cigarette and a coworker whom before my relationship with wasn't so great, was giving me a lecture and a public service announcement that I shouldn't smoke if I'm going to be dealing with kids. I then told him to basically F himself and mind his business as backstage I'm allowed to smoke I would never do in it costume on stage. I said the exact word no filter. He then went into our scheduling room and spoke to one of the leads on shift. Before I went on stage I was called in by the lead and they asked if I said what I said to him and I said I did, and then they told me to go home and they would investigate this issue. I was then asked to come in Monday to which I was terminated for violent and threatening acts and behavior.

So you think I should fight this, or just accept it? Because I see lots of people on this forum who talk about getting their job back by speaking with the human resources union. Also should I put Disney as a reference when I go through police academy or in my future plans?

First of all, thank you for serving.

Seems kinda odd you went from being a security guard, to an outdoor vending position. However, I know when I worked at Disney, I worked in QSFB as well, and there was a guy who was working as a monorail driver, and went to foods and I guess it's possible to go from a position to which you need to have set qualifications and prestige for, to just a entry level position with lots of turnover. I know you mentioned your work performance as a security guard wasn't up to their expectations and they gave you the opportunity to change positions, and me personally that was your second and only chance as you could have been a no rehire based on that.

I know in a work setting they want to make sure the whole group gets along on a professional level. You don't have to personally like someone, but you have to professionally like someone. Not taking sides, maybe you were just in the wrong and the other guy was looking out for you, and you cussing him out probably made him feel threatened. I don't know the rules as far as smoking backstage is, all I know is that we only did it if none of the leads were around as there wasn't a rule that said we could, or couldn't smoke behind the kitchens. So try not to be so defensive, and try not to curse as much. It is Disneyworld/Disneyland, after all.

I'm sorry you lost your job and my only advice is that as someone who was also fired under inane circumstances and came here for reliance, to which you can just check my name to find the thread, I can understand. I would definitely try to fight if you can, also checking your rehire status if they haven't already told you. I don't give advice on references and work history on future jobs, that's up to you if you want to or not. Good luck with this, and good luck to being a police officer too.

OP.... you're done. Move on. You were given chances in different areas and you unfortunately sealed your fate with the sentiment that you gave your fellow CM. Using your actual picture as an avatar and airing out what got you fired, Disney brass reads these forums. Ask Domo, he knows all too well they do and that this thread can and will reappear when you don't want it to.

If you were Disney security and did not have good results, your looking towards being in law enforcement is not good. I'm not saying you can't or won't make it (hope you can) but listing prior security work at Disney, they will more than likely look into why that ended. So just be ready for that.

@Domosuke, wow... OP doesn't need advice on how to be a good human being. "So try not to be so defensive, and try not to curse as much. It is Disneyworld/Disneyland, after all." Please. The OP just needs to pick up and move on, his time under the Disney banner is over.
