Embarrassing question.... Will I fit?

Hey everyone!

We leave Friday for WDW and I realized that since my last trip I've gained a lot of weight. My older brother, my uncle, and my grandfather all passed away and between the sadness surrounding those, my new jobs which requires me to sit all day, and my PPD from when I had my daughter are all factors in my (ridiculous) weight gain. I've been working out a little recently, but not enough to make a dent into it yet. However I realized that I don't know the weight limits for rides and while I know I fit last time, when I went to a local park last October some rides were a tight squeeze for me and even though I weigh almost the same, now that I'm not walking around at work I think everythings gone from having some muscle to being mostly fat which obviously takes up more room....

My fear is going to get on a ride with my five year old and not fitting. Has anyone either personally experienced this or know someone that has? There are certain rides I'm not worried about, mostly just the ones with bars or harnesses.

Sorry to hear of your circumstances.

The last thing you want to do is crash diet in an attempt to lose weight, instead increase your exercise levels (take stairs instead of lifts etc) and ensure that you're eating properly.
As for Disney, I'm sure that I've read on here somewhere that the rides with the restraints have seats available for those of a larger build. If no one on here (unlikely) can answer your question, try contacting guest relations at WDW - I'm sure that they'll be able to help

I don't think any of the attractions have "weight limits" (if it's a tight squeeze or the restraints aren't fitting properly, ask a CM for assistance -- some ride vehicles, like Barnstormer and Space Mountain, are tough for any person of size). Don't feel embarrassed -- weight gain happens, and walking around Disney parks is wonderful exercise!

One thing you will want to be cognizant of is attractions where you will be sitting on a bench seat and sharing a lap bar with your little one -- be sure you know which is the "right" side for the bigger person to sit on. My DH (who is a big guy - 6' tall, linebacker shoulders, probably 250 lbs., mostly carried in the tummy area in front) once had a harrowing spin on Big Thunder Mountain because he sat on the "wrong" side of my daughter (on the left side of the vehicle instead of the right), which meant that due to the frequent left-hand curves on the track, he had to hold himself in place to keep his body from sliding across the bench seat into her and "smooshing" her against the side of the ride vehicle. At the same time, he was trying to keep a hand on her, because the lap bar (which couldn't get lowered any further in/down than his body would allow) was so far away from our daughter that he was worried she might fly around too much.

I have personally gone to Disney with people of all different body types and weights and none have them experienced any trouble fitting on the rides, except for Seven Dwarfs Mine Train - it was tight, but they still fit. You didn't give your clothing size or weight, and I would never ask you to, but I'll give some examples of people I went with who fit on everything just fine! I find that Disney rides are built to accommodate a larger range of body sizes than local theme parks as well.

One person I regularly go with and went with last summer is a 5'4 woman is 300+ pounds, carries the majority of weight in her middle and wears a size 22 pant - she fit on everything just fine. I've also gone with another woman who weighed over 300 pounds, carried most of it in her middle, and is 5'6 and while I don't know her pant size, she also fit on everything she wanted to ride. I've also gone with a woman who weighed about 260 pounds and carried most of her weight in her hips and thighs - she fit on everything as well but was uncomfortable on space mountain. I haven't gone with her since the mine train opened, but I do think that ride would be a challenge to fit on given her body shape. I personally am 5'3 and wear a size 16 pant and I have a very large chest - I wear a size 40H bra. I can also fit on everything just fine, but Rock'n'Roller Coaster is uncomfortable to me due to the overhead restraints. So if you have a large chest, beware!

I don't know if any of this helps, but I hope it does! Seven Dwarfs is also uncomfortable if you are very tall so keep that in mind! In general, the only rides I can think of that may pose an issue are Seven Dwarfs Mine Train and Space Mountain depending on body shape and size. One more thing to consider is that throughout the park, there are some attractions that still utilize the old, smaller turnstiles. These may be difficult to get through as they were for my park companions. Off the top of my head, I know Carousel of Progress and The Country Bear Jamboree utilize them. Turning sideways helps to go through the turnstile or you can ask a cast member to let you walk through the wheelchair gate, they will have no problem with it! :)

Thank you so much! That helps a lot!

I weigh 130 lbs and got stuck trying to get out of the Winnie the Pooh ride in May. I am generally fit with disproportionately wide hips. It was very embarrassing, trying to unwedge myself and grab my bag in a hurry to step onto the moving walkway. Going to be careful next time I try it!

Another thing I've noticed is that when exiting a dark ride with a lap bar, always push it all the way forward- almost been stuck there before, too!

I'm 6'3" and was almost 300lbs last October. Except for a tight squeeze with my legs on most rides (Test Track was probably the worst for leg and hip room and I regretted getting into a car at the Speedway - I couldn't straighten out my legs for the pedal), I fit ok on everything. One of my daughters is 5'4" and 240lbs (size 22) and had no problems. Like Piglet21 mentioned, we go through the turnstiles sideways when necessary.

not at the gates. some attractions still use them. carousel of progress and mad tea party are two i can think of offhand.
There are no turnstiles at any park entrance gates. I was at all 4 parks last week. I did forget about CoP and I don't ride teacups...let's celebrate the fact that most are gone. :)

i meant, "i didn't mean the ones at the gates, i meant the ones at the attractions." i think i phrased it poorly. i know they are gone at the gates. definitely not arguing that. i was only thinking of the ones at the attractions. i think swiss family treehouse may still have them as well? in any case...time for those to go. they are awkward for all! :D:D:D

I am male, 5'8, 350lbs. The worst are the turnstyles for me: Carousel of Progress, Mickey's Phillarmagic.

There is also a youtube channel of two sisters who are pooh sized who talk about their approach to disney and universal. You may be able to search for them.
