Elio (Pixar - June 2025)

I think it's interesting to compare the opening minute of this trailer to the opening minute of the old teaser from a couple years ago. Particularly the events leading up the abduction and the abduction itself.

Sometimes trailers mislead, but you can see the story hook change quite a bit. Which isn't a bad thing, Pixar and Disney talked about this last summer. How iteratively things don't click. I'll be curious to see if I can see this teaser at all in the final product.

Good catch! I think the premise shown in the first one seems more interesting to me, but obviously the powers that be have actually seen the movie so they're more informed. Interesting stuff.

There's something about it that I can't put my finger on. It doesn't scream Disney or Pixar to me, and I have no idea why.

If you told me this was Dreamworks, I would believe it. But at the same time, the art looks very similar to Lightyear; like if you told me they were in the same universe, I would believe it.

Looking back, WALL-E was beautiful to look at in the trailer and movie. I'm just not excited for this movie. Again, I don't know why! I should be because this is an original story, which I desperately wanted Disney to continue this trend. Something about the story?

Look at Iron Giant; I feel like based on the trailer they're going for that route. A human befriending an alien that looks scary. I could be wrong because the trailer keeps changing, and I keep reading different synopses of the story. But I feel like Iron Giant is just God-tier level, and this movie is just more meh in comparison.

Also, I am nervous that there are three directors on this project. AGAIN, I DON'T KNOW WHY!

Should I re-watch Iron Giant?

Another reason it's going to bomb... is the competition. How to Train Your Dragon and 28 Years Later are coming out in June as well. I think families would much rather see the Dragon movie than Elio.
Just like how people showed up for World War Z instead of Monsters University in 2013 or how families chose to rather see The Flash instead of Elemental back in 2023.

Oh wait…

Neither happened.

As long as the movie gets strong reviews and a bit more marketing come next month with one final push via one more trailer for the movie playing with live-action Lilo & Stitch, Elio WILL NOT BOMB.

Watch me be right about that.

Watch me.

LOL, you can't compare Monsters University to Elio. One is a classic and the other is a bomb like Strange World.

Besides you are forgetting conveniently that I brought up How to Train Your Dragon. That will probably still beat Elio in it's 2nd week.
If it’s too much shot for shot like The Lion King was and drops as much as that film did in its second weekend because audiences are annoyed by that (60%), Pixar’s Elio, with better word of mouth and the luck of having IMAX screens taken away from HTTYD, after that film’s weekend, to itself for one week before F1 comes out, will open to #1 and beat that movie.

Just wait. That’s gonna be the outcome and you’ll be sorry you ever doubted Elio’s chances. You’ll see.

You’ll see.

I still know a winner for Disney at the box office when I see one.

And that’s what I’m gonna see in Elio where I didn’t see that in Cap 4 or Snow White.

You and the other Disney Apologists are always saying you love their movies. You come out and overly support something and act like people are wrong, if they think otherwise. Then the movie tanks and you guys never say we're right. You just move onto the next one and say we're wrong again.
You don’t see me doing that with Cap 4 and 2025 Snow White.

I don’t why you’re so confident in how to train your dragon. It’s not like it’s some big franchise that sends a wave around the world whenever there’s a new installment. And I don’t even know what 28 days later is but it doesn’t sound like it’s targeting remotely the same Audience.

And what do you do when a Disney movie is successful or rated positively? You start talking about bots or something.
