Don't get too pumped about it... it's not all that exciting I promise.

The best place to watch it? The beach of the Polynesian at 9:00. :D

What is it? It's barges with lights and music. That's pretty much it... haha.

It's what you make of it. We always watch it from the Poly but make a night of it. We sit on the beach my husband gets us a tropical drink and enjoy the short parade. It's one of those things most people say if you seen it once that's enough but it's a nice way to relax after a long day

I remember watching this as a young child (sometime in the early 1970's) from our room at the Poly. Last November I took my wife and kids to watch from the beach at the Poly. The kids loved playing in the sand while waiting, and while my wife was, shall we say, underwhelmed, it was very nostalgic for me. The kids liked it to, but not as much as Spectro or any of the nightime shows. The Poly is the only place I've seen it from, so I don't know how it is from any of the other resorts.

As usual Rain is correct on all accounts.

The parade is by no means must see, life altering event but I have enjoyed it every time I have watched it. It reeks of 70's Christmas lights and plinky electronic music but that is part of the charm.

Depending on the time of year you go the beach at the Poly can get pretty cold especially if it is windy, but nothing a jacket or a blanket can't fix.

I had seen it about 2 or 3 times in my lifetime at the resort monorail station. It was pretty impressive to me, just to see it on the water. I had seen it again recently and thought it was ok. I guess in my situation, it was in the right place at the right time type thing.

Its also nice watched from the boat dock or beach at the Wilderness Lodge.

Its cheesy, but its a tradition we don't usually pass up. :)

Us, too. I run get me a cocktail (usually a Bailey's drink like mudslide or a coffee if it is cold). I like it there because it is not real crowded. I like the way you can hear the music from your balcony of the floats approaching when you do not head down there. It is not a major thing to see, but like you say, it is tradition...and it is classic Disney. :)

When I went to WDW as a kid, we were playing on the beach at the Poly at dusk our very first night there. All of a sudden, as night fell, this totally unexpected little water pagent started. (It was our first trip and we had no idea it was a scheduled event.) Us kids just squealed with delight over it -- synthesized music and all. We thought it was just such a cool thing for WDW to do for a hotel!

I remember that experience with a smile to this day -- so we make a point of seeing it with our own kids now at least once a trip. :)

Sorry for digging up such an old thread but I was searching for info on the pageant. My question is ...what time does this pageant start?

It depends on which resort you're at around the lake. I watched it from the Polynesian in December at 9:00 pm I believe. Here's what I found on another website:
9:00pm - Polynesian
9:15pm - Grand Floridian
9:35pm - Wilderness Lodge
9:45pm - Fort Wilderness
10:05pm - Contemporary
10:20pm - Magic Kingdom (during extended park hours)

I think it is repeated on nights when the Magic Kingdom is open until 11 or 12, but don't quote me on that.

Personally, I love it! Granted, I no longer go out of my way to see it, but when I catch it while riding the monorail or something I get excited. i think it reminds me of my childhood visits to WDW...

We're taking the magical fireworks voyage in May and will be able to see it from a much different perspective than before - on the water.:sohappy:

To me,it's like vintage Disney. I get the same kick out of it as I do from riding some of the origianl rides (Peter Pan, Jungle Cruise, etc.)

Gosh I'm so old..... :o

To add to this, the pageant would be performed after Wishes. Giving a start time closer to 9:20/9:30.

sort of a Main Street Electrical Parade on water

I think this is the longest running show they have. I seem to catch it about every 5 years or so, I don't think it has changed much but it is a cute way to pass time on the beach. It started well before any of the night time spectaculars they have today. I don't know if it has been there since opening but I believe it was there well before Epcot.

Are you able to go to one of the MK resorts to watch this even if you're not staying there? I mean, can you get down to the water without resort ID?
