Do any Walt Disney World experts know why the Sea Monster float was replaced by the Crocodile in 1982?
Any help is appreciated.

???? Was this a temporary thing? We saw the Sea monster float(s) in Nov.

ETA: according to Wikipedia (yeah, I know) the sea serpent has been present in every one of the EWP versions.

The Crocodile was put in sometime in 1982.Originally there was a Sea Monster that looked like an eel.
You can see it in this video:

Sorry, that video was so bad I could barely make out the floats, and only because I saw it a couple months ago. But I think I know where my confusion came from. The sea serpent has always been there, and has always been at the front. But there was an electric eel float that was replaced by the crocodile. Here's the relevant section from Wiki:
The 1977 to 1995 lineup of floats for the Electrical Water Pageant were:

  • Overture- "Hornpipe"
  • Sea Serpent (four floats) "That Certain Serpent"- J. Christensen
  • Whale (one float) Whale Of A Tale" N. Gimbel/A Hoffman
  • Turtle (one float) (An updated version of the 1972 Turtle) "I'm A Turtle" D. Dorsey
  • Octopus (one float) "Up In Arms" D. Dorsey
  • Three Jumping Dolphins (three floats) "Waltz Almost" - J. Christensen
  • Brachiosaurus (one float)"Up In Arms" Reprise - D. Dorsey
  • Electric Eal (one float) (Later became a Crocodile) Bay-Sea Monster -J. Christensen
  • Four Seahorses (one float) (An updated version of the 1971 Four Seahorses)
  • Neptune (one float) (An updated version of the 1971 Neptune) "Horpipe" (Reprise) mixed w/ all other themes
  • Stars & Stripes _Patriotic Medley
  • Traveling Music: "The Bouree" - G.F. Handel
From October 1, 1981 – October 1, 1982, in honor of Walt Disney World's 10th anniversary, the Patriotic Finale music was replaced w/ the Tencennial theme song.

Who knows why it was replaced. Maybe too similar in shape to the sea serpent or Dinosaur? If you look at the Wiki article you can see that there are quite a few floats that have appeared and disappeared over the years.

My guess is that maybe the sea monster float got destroyed in an accident so they had to make a new float and they made it into a crocodile.Or maybe they changed the floats around the time of the Tencennial.
