I was just wondering why they go around telling people to turn off external lights on their cameras yet they go around selling Flashy lights and balloons before the show!

I don't really film with an external light but that is stupid.....:veryconfu

That's a good question. Maybe because the flashy items they sell don't have the brightness or distraction that a camera has to the performers.
I'm assuming a camera flash or video recording light has a higher level of brightness than items they sell, but can't tell you for sure.

Any CM's/performers out there who can vouche for this?

Not 100% sure but that would be my best guess. I think it has to do with the brightness level. Think of it this way, if you tried to read something with one of those light up things it would be very difficult. If you tried to read it with an external camera light it would be quite easy. The lights shine in the performers eyes and makes it difficult to see which could be seen as a safety hazard.

As I said, not 100% sure but that's my best guess.

I would have to agree. The flashes are quite bright & can be a little disorienting to those involved in or dancing in the parade.

I would assume the items have a higher profit margin than peoples cameras so therefore its OK. :lookaroun

It`s for the safety of the performers.

And to stop the floats looking like the chicken wire that they are.

LOL chicken wire!!

Those annoying lighted flashy toys are annoying as you try to watch the parade lol...but I imagine they are great profit makers for Disney so I understand their desire to sell them....

The camera flashes are designed to light up everything in front of the camera where the toy lights are just designed to be seen, not really a good source of light. The flashes also light up the floats and exposed the hardware and what every they dont want exposed.
