Hi all! Thanks to everyone on this board for all the help and info that I got from these boards!! Just got back from our AWESOME vacation, there was one problem we noticed on our trip that I never saw discussed here so I'm throwing it out there: Electric scooters!

I realize there are many people that need them in order to get around in and enjoy WDW, but I wish there could be a way of really assessing need of one. Since our last trip (05')we really noticed an increase in use and people using them as battering rams and in general being overly aggressive with them. (we witnessed a man purposely go full stem ahead and practically run over a little 6 year old girl, that was a really close one! I felt like dragging him from his scooter, and it wasn't even my child!! )

Anyone else notice this?

when I was there in 2005, we also had massive scooter groups .. most of the time extremely obese people that wouln't fit in any "moving" ride .. some of them were pretty ruthless .. cause the have the "look @ me I'm sick .. you can't blame me"
pretty annoying

I definitely agree with you. I have noticed it on several occasions. My mom gets one everytime we go so I notice it more because we have one. Unlike some, she is very cautious with hers and we as a group kinda encircle her that way she will hit us before hitting anyone else. But I have seen some that do just what you said. I have also noticed it with strollers. So I really think it's just how rude the person is with the scooter or stroller and unfortunately there is no way for Disney to evaluate the rudeness of a person before renting them out.

On another note, I do sympathize with those that have to use them. I really find them a hassle, especially when we have to leave the park during closing hours or after the parade. It is really difficult to maneveur around a crowd of people without hitting someone. I wish Disney could help with traffic control for strollers & scooters when exiting at those times.

:sohappy: Dreaming of my Disney Vacation in 167 days...wish it was sooner:cry:

:brick: I totally agree. When i was there in 2005, i picked up my 5 year old brother so he could see during a parade and lady with a scooter yellled at him and said that he was obstruction to her view and of course, he got scared started to cry and the women made a scene in front of everyone. The worst part about it was that she was obese and didnt have an injury or a walking/standing issue so she could have easily stood up nicely to watch just like everyone else. And, we werent even in the front.

To nip most future arguments on this topic in the bud...

Unless you have the stones to go up to someone in an electric stroller and demand to see proof that he or she "needs it," there's no way to determine their needs. Some people who look healthy enough to walk, aren't. Some, at least, aren't able to be on their feet all day. Do I think there are people who might take advantage of them? Probably, the same way people will cut in line to get with friends or relatives ahead of you in line, or claim a meal was unsatisfactory after eating 98% of it and demand to not pay or pay less, or use baby strollers as battering rams, or stand in front of someone who's been holding a place to see a parade for 2 hours, or pretend to not speak English when they so any of these things and are called out on it, etc. etc. There's no shortage of jerks & jackasses who will try to work any situation for his or her advantage. I can either a: watch people like hawks all day to see if someone suddenly sprints out of their wheelchair or stroller, or if the person who was pushing the wheelchair on Space Mountain is now being pushed in the wheelchair in Splash Mountain, or if someone suddenly develops the ability to speak English after the CM trying to maintain order splits...

OR

b: I can enjoy the time my wife and I are spending, on vacation, at Disney World.

Sometimes it winds up being a. But I always strive for b.

Never thought of Electric Scooters as a menace at WDW although noticing quite a few around, I never saw a hazard made from them....lucky I guess.....Although strollers are the bane of my vacation existance.....I've been nailed countless times and my shins, ankles and heels all held my red badges of courage....

I was there exactly one year ago on Mother's day. as we were checking into the Pop Cnetury resort my ds (he was 2 1/2 at the time) asked if he could go sit with he uncles who sitting about 50 feet away on one of the couches i the lobby. I looked and saw nobody coming and told him it was ok. Well no sooner does he start walking over to them some guy on an electric scooter comes flying around the corner and hits him and knocked him down hard. He cut his lip and had a good size bump on his head. The very thoughtful guy (insert sarcasm) looks down and go oh sorry and takes off. Well my son for the rest of the trip was afraid to leave my dw and mine side. He was there the year before and had no problem being away fom use and staying with my parents when we went on rides. Not this time.
Must say though Disney is very aware of what goes on since orignally they put us in the 50's building. As soon as my son got hit the woman took our card keys back and upgraded us to perferred rooms at no charge without us asking for anything. That is why i love Disney. Let see this time since we are booked to arrive on Sept. 16th hopefully he forgot all about it which it seems like he did.

My father has spinal stenosis. He can only stand for like 20 mins straight and then he gets a tingling in his legs and then they go numb. He ALWAYS has to use the scooter and he is 64 years young. He even gets those "looks" from people and he looks really good for his age. You would never be able to look at my father and tell he has this problem. We dont use the scooter to get ahead in line and even if they offer my dad tells them that he is able to stand in line. My biggest problem is the stroller comando moms. I have to say I cant stand you. I would like to leave the park with my heals intact if you dont mind. I am 3 months preggo and will never act like that. You dont have the right of way because you have a stroller drift with the crowd like everyone else and STAY OFF MY HEELS!!!!!!

Unfortunately this subject never ends well. It's been discussed many times before, and ultimately ends up in a huge argument.

Apologies to the poster with the question, but this one is best closed. If you would really like to see a lot of opinons on this, do a quick search, and you will find a lot of threads on the topic. Thanks.
