Eisner's Secret Envelope:

I was watching a re-run of the interview session on CSpan with Roy Disney. He made a comment that seemed interesting to me.

Just so you know, as expected because of what he said, people laughed. He reiterated that he was serious, but the audience just seemed sort of floundered at the comment, which I think they were just having their eyes opened.

Roy said that everyone in high management knows about an envelope that sits in Eisner's desk locked up. That envelope contains the name of the person that will receive the CEO position when Eisner steps down.

First off, I wonder who it is, if it's Mitchell, but that would mainly depend on how long he plans on staying in.

Secondly, can't he only recommend the position since the board will make the decision.

I just wonder who's name is in that envelope.

I don't think Eisner is in the position to make decisions about the future CEOs...

But about the envelope...I was under the impression that it held information about what to do if something ever happened to Eisner...not neccessarily naming a replacement CEO....

I'm sure we will hear about the envelope more and more, and about possible replacement for Eisner...lets see what happens...

Maybe the envelope contains instructions on what to do with Walt's frozen body up in Cindy's castle. How does Roy know an envelope is there unless he has done some snooping around in Eisner's office?

There might be an envelope, but I doubt it contains the name of the next CEO.

this is exactly what it is. I also thought maybe it would be kept somewhere else but, as we all know, Eisner doesn't run a company of directors. He's the boss and only boss in today's Disney board. So, it wouldn't surprise me if he had it in his desk droor locked. In fact Roy stated that it is very well known about the envelope in his office.

:lookaroun what a scary little thought :lookaroun

LOL

good point. I should have thought of this.......................the name on the envelope for the person replaceing him after he leaves is, in fact, himself. His theory is, I retire, rehire myself and start with a clean slate.

OMG I'm scared!!! :lookaroun He could do that!

LOL, Just think.........then he could do a good job the first year under his rehiring of himself and say "well I am paying myself a $70M bonus this year because the CEO last year did a horrible job and gave himself $64M.

I dont know though, rehiring himself means he'd be a newly hired employee which means less vacation balance. :D

I think that when Eisner goes much of the board will quickly follow.

The question I have is who is it addressed to? I suspect that it is not a name but a number he is willing to take for the sale of the company...when/if that day comes (comcast anyone :hurl: ).

If they wait another year with the way things are going, the board won't have another opportunity because they'll be forced out. If you thought over 40% voting NO was high, wait til next year.

And Eisner will be leading the parade out of the boardroom.

Could you see THAT being opened? Picture the next Shareholder's Meeting...

Announcer: "And here to present the award for Disney CEO successor is Mickey Mouse and Donald Duck!"

MM: "Well...It's been a roller coaster ride this year."

DD: *Looking sick* "Don't mention roller coasters." *Canned laughter*

MM: "The envelope please..." *Eisner is drug on stage by Goofy waiting a Police uniform and made to relinquish the envelope* "And the winner is..."

*Drumroll and rustling paper*

MM & DD: "*Fill in your answer here*"

:D That isn't some kind of sacrelig is it? :lookaroun

I can see it now! 60% voting NO against the current Disney board! :D

Remember though...the 46% was out of ALL Disney voting shares he had like a 57% no-confidence vote among the shares that DID actually vote.

right, and Mitchell had no confidence as well, and then he gets promoted, which means one of two things.

1) Eisner is doing this to spite the shareholders and the way they feel about him so he can stay in power another year.

OR

2) he's just an idiot!

When I think back to the feeling and look on my face I got when I read that Eisner promoted Mitchell after the vote of no confidence I literally laugh. Looking back it's absolutely hilarious! My first feeling "This guy has to be the dumbest guy on earth". But then I figured he was doing it out of spite, because any halfway intelligent human being would know that's exactly what the shareholders didn't want.
