All over these threads you see Eisner bashing. The question I pose to all of you is who should replace him. Keep it realistic.

[Heh, sorry -- I had to seize that opportunity to obnoxiously state the obvious replacement from the perspective of any Disney fan (himself, of course).]

Now, to be serious, I think the question we should be asking is the following: Who wouldn't be an improvement over Michael Eisner? You'd think there would be hordes of people in America with a firm sense of Disney values and whose business acumen is nigh superhuman. At the moment, half the battle seems to be giving the artists the freedom to create -- within the framework of Disney's standards, that is. Now, I don't know any of these high-powered businesspeople, but Roy Disney must know plenty of them. I'm sure he'll find a worthy successor within the next couple of years.

Edit:
.. And Steve Jobs is a looney.

Branson wouldn't leave Virgin.

Jobs--I think he would have trouble moving from Pixtar. Plus the board would support it.

Roy--had problems once with the company, had no recent success with his recent projects. Board would never vote him in

I've always felt that Jeffrey Katzenberg would be the best choice. I know some will disagree because he didn't get along with the board of directors, but most of the board seems to be made up of Eisner loyalists anyway.

strangely enough, I don't disagree entirely with that statement. His ties to Dreamworks would make that a huge conflict of interest (ie, 2 competing companies), but I wouldn't upset if he were CEO

I think that if Jobs were to be named CEO, you'd probably see a merger/buyout with Pixar or at least a longterm deal and then some.

Jobs is enough of a 'corporate outsider' (thinks outside the typical corporate model) that would be a good aire to the Disney throne. He's a dreamer and have a vision, i just hope he's a long term thinker, as opposed to Eisner's habitual schizophenic business decisions.

Katzenberg would be an interesting idea. If Katz comes into the fold, would that bring dreamworks into a merger with Disney or a similar long-term deal?

Disney needs to clean house and realise that the marketing department is not the most dept. in the company. Marketing alone will not make a bad product good (See ABC's latest lineup or any number of bad movies from WDFA-Burbank for examples) rather marketing dept. at disney should have very little work to do because of good products that virtually sell themselves.

Disney needs a CEO that realises that the product and the guests are the most important parts, not the bottom line and most certainly not people who haven't delivered of late.

All in all, i think if a CEO changes to someone that is not an Eisner clone, you might see Pixar come back in the fold, and might see a deal with Legacy Animation.

Good stories and good products and good guest experiences are whats needed, not stuff like 'Bust a Moo on April 2.' Upper management has lost its way and needs new direction.

I know this is kind of out their but why not newly elected Disneyland president Matt Ouimet, He has been doing many great things so far in the company and has been a very hands on type guy almost completely changing all of the questionable decisions Cynthia Harris had made about Disneyland's 50th Anniversary. But thats just my 2 cents

Well, I think Katzenberg or Jobs would be excellent for the job. Katzenberg definitely has the pedigree for the job. But if pressed to choose, I would go with Jobs. Now, I know that there are many people, and I do mean many people, who believe that Jobs is just another version of Eisner. Especially in the ego department. However, one has only to look at the type of products and the quality of the products that Apple puts out. I was recently given an iPod for Christmas, and opening the box it came in was just as enjoyable as the iPod itself. I mean it's cubed, and it splits into two pieces and the attention to detail in the packaging was just amazing!! We're not talking about throwing crap into some plastic and sticking it in an uninteresting box. This company gives a lot of thought, attention, and imagination to even the finest details. Sound familiar? I mean the box people!! The box!! Anyway, I believe Jobs may be able to bring his creative spirit and showmanship ways, something needed in a company like Disney, to benefit the company as a whole.
