Now that it appears imminent, I'm trying to figure out whether this is a good thing or a bad thing. The old adage, "be careful what you wish for...it may just come true" may be appropriate here.

A fresh new management team sounds great, but a hand-picked successor doesn't. Couple that with the fact that in the last 20 years Eisner has transformed WDW into a world class resort in many ways and his contributions cannot be discounted...Thoughts?

I was thinking along the same lines here. By hand picking a successor, is he assuring that the "Eisner way" continues? And what of the Board and the shareholders? Would the shareholders who sent a vote of "no confidence" at the last meeting approve of a successor picked by Eisner?

I will admit that when Eisner first came to Disney and started changing things...new animated features, expansion of the parks, etc, I was thrilled. But now, I feel as though perhaps his time has come and its time to relinquish that grasp on Disney and allow new, fresh blood in to bring the company thru the 21st century.

Remember, it wasn't Eisner alone that brought Disney into a new resurgence. As stated so well in a mouse planet article today.

a new resurgence began when Eisner and Frank Wells were brought in by Roy E. Disney and Stanley Gold to run the company in 1994. The company prospered, and grew both creatively and financially for the next 10 years, until Wells' death in 1994 in a heli-skiing accident. The company proceeded upward for the next couple of years on momentum, as projects begun while Wells was alive came to fruition. Then things began a downward spiral as Eisner tried to direct both the creative and the financial.

I have a seperate thread under this:
http://forums.wdwmagic.com/showthread.php?t=44969

I love what the article stated:
What Disney's board needs to do is to find a pair that works well together, respects each other, and will be able to create dynamic tension between the creative and the financial, as Walt and Roy did, and as Michael and Frank did.

My two cents

I'm sure there are some out here that would love to hear "Your Fired" come from Trumps mouth to Eisner ears.

That would bring in ratings.

I'd actually PAY to see that!

Hey, just let me have it! I've been saying for the last 20 years I wanted Eisner's job. Heh. My first order of business would be to bring back Dreamfiner for a reunion with Figment.

Well Eisner is less ingnorant than I thought. But it could also cause a big problem for Save Disney. What if a good CEO can't be found by 2005? What if Disney gets stuck with some person just out of college who plays by the books? It would cause a major pain to Save Disney, and have Eisner saying that "see, I should have left as I originally said".

But I don't think Eisner would play dirty like that.

According to at least one report, Michael Eisner may be leaving as early as June, 2005.

Encouraging news but there's still time for him to do more damage before he is run out of there (with a couple million dollars in stock options, of course).
