Well wether previews or not, in 4 days i'll be there for a week, and Disney has already e-mailed us twice saying we'll have the chance to ride it, it's open, blah blah etc......They already have our money, so unless something's suddenly come up, I don't see why they would promise us something that's not going to be happening. And to be honest, i'm sure it's great and all, it would be nice to ride it, but my vacation is not going to revovle wether or not I ride it.

I'd like to see that promise from Disney.
The attraction has always been designated to open in spring of 2006.
Anything earlier should be considered lucky.
Every new attraction has soft openings/castmemember rides/Florida residence/annual passholder previews...whatever

Disney doesn't owe you or anyone else anything.
They said the ride would be officially open in the spring of 2006
That could mean March, April or May
I hope it's open when you're there...if not, then perhaps the next trip.

I never suggested Disney owed me anything, if it's open, whatever, like I said my vacation won't revolve around it, I really don't care. I'm not going to be stalking AK with a drool bib for a week, and bugging CM's about about it's availability. I was only stating if it's not open then public relations shouldn't be loading my e-mail with hype, just to not have it open in 4 days. :animwink:

It has been documented repeatedly that Disney has sent this message out to guests. It is pretty clear that they intend for the ride to be open, and any messages sent directly from Disney can be viewed as a promise. Disney generally tries to not knowingly irritate guests.

Does anyone know if they're using fastpass during the soft openings? I'm thinking about driving over next weekend, but I'll have the kids with me so I can't spend an hour in the queue. I'll be leaving my chisel at home.;)

Yes they are. Although I personally suggest that you use the standby queue the first time you ride.

Thanks for the quick reply. I'd love to do as you suggest, but it may come down to fastpass or nothing, in which case I choose fastpass.

If you get there early, you can get an FP and then go straight into queue with minimal wait. Then come back for your FP. Both queues are worth experiencing.

My nephews are in WDW at this very moment. I spoke to them on Tuesday, the 21st as they were about to ride Expedition Everest.

The ride is very much open and operating, with no sign of closing any time soon.

Just like the military will 'neither confirm or deny' operations in any given area, Disney CMs will also 'neither confirm or deny' the ride will be open. I rode it a couple times earlier this month. When I entered the park with my CM ID, I asked if the ride was running. "Maybe, go back and check" was the only answer I could get. When my brother tried last weekend, it was not running. When asked, the CM said "It opens in April". All advertising says it opens in April, so that is the official line. But it is currently in a soft-opening testing period, and may or may not be operating with guests. Even the hint of a confirmed operation could lead to many poor guest comments if it does in fact go down. I would encourage all guests going between now and April to give it a shot - first thing on park opening if possible.

I was just there. It was open more often than not. They are running commercials for it and it's #1 on the top 7 must sees. Although it may be down, it was open every day I was there.

Hey there NASAman! Welcome to WDWmagic. (Horizons here. ;) ) I agree, if you're ever going to DAK, give it a shot. It may be open. Just don't get your hopes up.

Ok everyone, WDW Mountain Rides is my site and I think that info may be false. I was told by multiple people that Everest needed work done and wouldnt be able to be open. Now I find out it may be false. Once again, sorry about the confusion.

Thursday February 23 and EE was open all afternoon that I was there. Cool thing to note is how many hundreds if not thousands of people like to just hang out in front of the mountain and watch the ride. The entire 400-500 feet of walk way in front of the mountain was nearly as crowded with onlookers as it was on Annual passholder preview weekend. - special notes: the train steam is still not working but I just noticed how it was created today... the steam mechanism is not in/on the train, but is fed into the train by precisely positioned tubes below the track that line up with tubes on the train. Also something I noticed for the first time today and I hope you all hop on this discussion as I have not seen it mentioned here before. After the yeti projection and in the location of the steam before the drop.... look up at the ceiling... there is some kind of thin metal edge sunken into the ceiling above the tracks crossing left to right across the tracks, as if it were planned to have a black wall that would come down to conceal the daylight and raise just before you move forward into the fog and plunge down outside. Take a look, I bet it might have been or still is in the plans which would make the ride that much more dramatic.

one other thing... the single riders line appears to be a success. They were taking 2-4 single riders per train all three times I rode today. First look for the single riders billboard next to the FastPass entrance line... and if it is there... hop in the fastpast line and put up one finger when you get to the CM checker... he will give you a ticket for single riders... the wait was about 15 minutes each time.

and yet another thing... there appears to be very little done as yet to conceal the inside of the mountain in the backwards sequence... saw just as much infrastructure and light as I did two weeks ago.

Sure it's not just an air-vent to keep the hot-side-hot & the cool-side-cool?

Disney uses air-returns (like for air conditioning) many times in attractions to create virtual "walls". Some are used to keep temperatures separated... in this case, I would guess it could be used to keep the mist/fog effect from dissipating too quickly during a train-sequence.

That is a possibility... take a look next time you ride.

We rode EE yesterday about 1 PM, and they were distributing fast passes. We chose the standby line, and it only took about 20 minutes.
