Sounds like it was a good thing we went Thursday and Friday. I stopped counting my rides after 20. The line Thursday morning was kind of long, but it was due to a lot of confusion I think. People didn't know where to go to get the lanyards, the Passholder and DVC pins, the fast pass or the standby, so it just crowded up. CMs got a handle on it by about 11 or so, and it was smooth sailing from that point on.

You MUST go through the regular line at least once to see the museum! Honestly it is just awesome. And as for the ride, it was just really, really awesome! I love being able to look to the left and see Epcot and MGM, and to the right and see AKL.

Thursday my hubby was waiting in the pin line and CMs kept handing him vouchers for the pins. People had gotten in the line and didn't realize they needed the vouchers, so every so often a CM would be handing out pin vouchers. From Thursday and Friday we ended up with 4 passholder pins and 8 DVC pins. And we didn't even ask for the additional vouchers!!! I told DH he shouldn't have taken them, but he said everyone else was. He didn't understand about the 2 limit anyway - I usually take care of the detail stuff, so he didn't know he was getting more than he should. According to one CM we talked to, they only had 100 passholder pins to start Friday with. But plenty of DVC pins.
The Fastpass machine didn't spit out a voucher for us!
I didn't know I needed one even until I was exiting the ride and a CM was asking if we got our lanyard. When I said no, she explained I had to use Fastpass and it would give a voucher. I began to explain that I did use Fastpass but never got any kind of voucher. Well, she wasn't offering to give me a lanyard and kept explaining how to get the voucher. As hoards of people kept pushing by, at that time I wasn't interested in going back to the Fastpass machine. Oh well...no biggie for me. I didn't understand why they weren't giving them at the checkpoints instead though. Would have been easier to control, IMHO.

Crowd control was quite confusing the opening of Thursday's preview. There was ALOT of confusion with the guests and CM's and people going everywhere. Seemed to get cleared up by 10:30 though. One confusing part for Fastpass distribution was that they were directing people to enter from the back of the Fastpass machines but then making you exit through the front of them where people were lined up trying to get them. That was crazy!

When we walked past the entrance around 4:00 today the sign said the wait was 100 mins, but while talking to a CM he told us it was more like 2 hours.

Once we actually got into the Everest area the queue moved pretty quickly. We arrived at 9:30 and left the area at 12:00. The wait was 2 hours but certainly not unbearable. Theming was excellent, and once inside what will be the real area it was very informative.
The ride was great. I am a bit of a weenie when it comes to coasters, and I found this one was over in a flash. The shadow was a bit cheesy, but the real Yeti was very fluid and belivable.

Bring Sunscreen!

I saw a few WDWMagic shirts :)

Wait Times on Saturday 1/28/2006

Arrived at the park at 9:20. Headed straight for Everest via Asia (instead of going through Dinoland first). The wait to check ID was about 20 minutes. The wait for the pin voucher was another 20 minutes or so. Probably another 30 minutes in the standby line.

I'm not giving anything away, but you'll love the views when on the lift hill. You can see all of Animal Kingdom and the way over to Epcot! The ride is worth it if you like the other Disney Mountains. It's not as fast or thrilling as rock and rollercoaster, but it's got a bit more punch than Space Mountain. Kinda like Thunder Mountain on steroids....

All things considered, our party of 3 was ready to leave Animal Kingdom around 11:00. If I had it to do over again... I'd wait in the line. :D

If you arrive at opening you shouldn't have too much of a problem tommorow.

We arrived around 11 and we were directed over the grassy median that seperates the parking lots closest to the entrance road due to a fender bender at that very dangerous yield sign. Parking lot was nearly at capactity.

Once inside cast members were directing those who were attending the preview over the Dinoland bridge and not through Asia. The unmarked and almost single file line in the middle of the path literally started at the path near the McDonalds fries stand. It took about thirty minutes for us to reach the checkpoint while normal guests continued to walk past us on both sides and turn around.

Past the checkpoint we entered the real chokepoint. I felt like I was at Disneyland at the end of Remember... Dreams Come True. I simply cannot imagine what Everest will be like during peak times as the line really can only be used for about 80 minutes tops of length.

The way the standby queue is situated there is almost no room for expansion. Kali River Rapids is directly to the left, Everest in the back and right, Fast Pass/Gift Shop on the right, and the lake takes up a huge portion of the area. They're not going to have the luxury of setting up the queue past the restrooms like they did for the previews as this requires a CM to literally play crossing guard to stop the queue for guests to exit/enter the restrooms. The ONLY plausible way to extend the queue is to push the walkway back further into the area where the lake currently is and relocate the Fastpass Machines elsewhere to free up some room.

After exiting the Yeti Shrine in the standby line and onto the grassy tea switchback an older gentleman in a wheelchair had to be taken out of the queue line for a medical reasons. This proved quite interesting as EVAC team rolled up their stretcher along the wall of the general store/museum facing the queue, but had to push him through the remainder of the standby queue. Managment was there in full force and asked those in the queue to push as far as they could to the left so that they could get through. Quite an interesting day they probably had.

After we exited the area back out to Dinoland we saw some measures taken to speed up the checkpoint which included masking tape on the ground to indicate lines. I'm afraid it's going to take much more than that to speed things up though...

That being said - it was well worth the wait. I just hope things are done to correct the queue length!

Here's what I did today (Sat. 1/28), which seemed to work

I went to the preview today and managed to ride several times and leave AK by about noon (to go take a nap at blizzard beach!). Here is how I did it. I don't know if it'll work for anyone else tomorrow (especially since I'm posting so late!) but I thought I'd pass it on anyway... nothing revolutionary but it worked.

I got to the AK toll booth about 45 minutes before park opening. It was already busy. I went right in the park as they'd already started letting people in thru the turnstiles. I went to the right and waited at the rope, and there was already a large crowd of people in front of me at the rope... so if you can get there earlier than I did, you should! :)

I headed straight for the fastpass distribution area (if you're lost, ask a castmember right away before it gets too crazy. They were holding up big signs to indicate where to go). They were just handing out fastpasses without having to run a ticket through (presumably to speed things along). So, I went through the fastpass line again 2 more times, and got another 2 fastpasses. They didn't run my ticket through the fastpass machines at all. Felt a little guilty about getting the extra fastpasses but I waited in line for them like everyone else, so I figure anyone could have done it. (Besides, I'm a good person, I'll pay it forward somehow!)

So, by 9:30 I was holding 3 fastpasses. I rode 5 times, because 2 other kind guests gave me their fastpasses that they weren't going to use (it pays to be cheerful and friendly toward your fellow guests! I didn't ask for the fastpasses, they just handed them to me after we'd struck up a conversation. Smile, smile, smile and the world smiles with you.). The fastpass distribution frenzy in the early AM led to a lot of people mysteriously getting more fastpasses than they could use, it seems.

Bottom line: Go straight for fastpass, and if they're not running the tickets through the machine, get another fastpass right away. And be friendly to others!! Happy riding. It's a fun one!

(Epilogue: I'm now savoring an adult beverage and some delicious cheez-its in the comfort of my home and I'm totally exhausted, but it was a great day.) :)

I cant imagine what its going to be like when this ride actually opens to the public. I think Disney is going to get what they want from this ride, if not a whole bunch more. I was wondering about parking this afternoon, did the parking lot ever close? I guess its good to see though, looks like Animal Kingdom will have an amazing year attendance wise.

I don't know whether the parking lot closed off or not, but I know when I got there in the early AM, there were more cast members than usual attending to the parking (some of them looked like management). And they instructed me to park on the grass... they were trying to fill up every available square inch of parking space, it seems. Anyway, that was my first sign that it was going to be craziness.

I got there about noon today and the line just to get in to the area stretched back to the McDonalds french fry cart in Dinoland. They said it would be about an hour to the front, and then the wait time for the ride was 2.5-3 hours. I left and killed 5 hours and got back to AK at 5:30 and by the time I got to EE at about 5:45 there was a 10-15 minute wait. Clearly, that's the way to do it. No fighting crouds, no long waits, it's exactly the way I expected the preview to be, peaceful and quick. My only gripe, the bells in the queue that everybody rings as they walked past will get old... FAST.

There was an accident that really threw a wrench in things as far as parking.

Good idea, hopefully people will be done with it for the weekend tommarrow. Being a single rider helps, I rode 8 times today and fifteen yesterday.

Well, I got to AK on Sunday at about 3:30 and was able to ride 4 times in the standby line by 5:15. Longest wait was 30 min, after 4:30 it was down to 5 or 10 min at the most. We could easily have gone on 8 or 10 times if we kept getting back in line right away and stayed 'till park close.

Unfortunately, my fiance and I would have both needed dramamine to do that. Niether of us normally feel sick from roller coasters (except for very twisty ones) but EE took it's toll by ride #4. I could have toughed out one more ride but she was really feeling it.

The very cool backwards in the dark part must be what threw us off. Next time, we're bringing dramamine!
