While touring Epcot earlier this year we came across a group of hired ECV's about 8 being ridden by men and women in their early twenty's . Racing each other spinning round popping wheelies or trying to, beer in hand and generally making a nuisance of themselves . They all appeared to be in very good health. Apart from their loutish behavior seeing them made us feel that it was disrespectful to those that need the ECV service .

So was this a one off thing or common these days ?

Unfortunately they are looking at it as another fun ride. Hopefully this doesnt become a trend .... "Spinning ECV's around EP".... too bad they can rent them and get away with it. If only they knew/ felt the hardship that comes with people who really need that assistance as a way to be mobile. Where's the all seeing Disney security we all hear about? They should shut this behavior down before someone gets injured.

This is terrible news! I am one who is contemplating the use of an EVC in my upcoming trip. I DO NOT look handicapped, however I have a severe osteoporosis and a several compression fractures in my back. Walking is ok, painful to do much of anything, really. I get tired easily. This just makes it harder for those of us who have "invisible" ailments. I KNOW I need one, however I don't know why I feel the need to explain my needs to others but I do. Perhaps it is my character flaw. I just don't want to diminish the needs of myself and others by some idiots playing in EVC's while drinking and doing things that endanger themselves and others around them.

It wouldn't surprise me if they just took a few that were left outside attractions. Users are advised to take their keys with them after parking the EVs. Since most are rentals, I see so many with the keys still them. And since it was in EPCOT, that whole "drinking around the world game" causes a lot if fools to show up. But that's a whole other thread that's been discussed about a thousand times.

This is actually pretty common. I worked in Epcot stroller/ECV/wheelchair rental on my college program (spring/summer of 2014) and we very frequently had large groups of younger guests who got ECVs for what appeared to be just for the novelty of it. It was pretty annoying (especially on days like 4th of July when we would have guests who actually needed the assistance on standby until an ECV became available).

I understand how ECVs are helpful to those with mobility issues. But, I must admit that I lose patience when I see ECV drivers with a little kid (or two) on their lap...and they're are letting the kid steer. Also, when one of the drivers runs up behind people, going far faster than everyone is walking, and starts beeping their horn for everyone to get out of their way.

In the scene described by the OP, I hope Security had a little talk with them.

We have regularly encountered drunk idiots who cannot seem to go on a WDW vacation without an "alcoholic beverage" (I love that endearing term used for liquor ) and during the F&W festival it is ridiculous. Aside from have a drink at every meal every day of their trip, a case or two of beer in their room, and any chance they have to get a drink, they have to have a drink in every country possible and by the time they are half way around the world they a four sheets to the wind. Usually these people are nothing more than a side attraction to gaze and laugh at since they bother no one, but usually at least once per trip we see someone lose it because they are either an angry drunk, or they are a "the life of the party" drunk and they get somewhat out of control. I have never seen security called, yet, but young morons taking unmanned ECV's does not sound too out of character for some of these prizes of humanity.

We personally have been to F&W several times including as recent as last year and going again this year, and have never seen any drunk idiots roaming about on weekdays or on weekends. I guess we just have good luck with ECV people and F&W folks every trip. Lol :D:rolleyes:

You must have good luck because I am not the only one I know who has seen it. They aren't running down the streets screaming. With the exception of one moron back during our 2010 trip who decided it would be funny to serenade every woman that passed by him at the top of his lungs it is usually happening off to the side in WS. You may not be looking for it though. :D

I saw a bunch of college kids doing that in 2004.

Not a one off but not common either

We are usually sober so it would be totally obvious to us so I don't think I would miss anything of that nature. At least I shouldn't miss it. Lol I worked in a large bar/club when I was younger for a few years so I can usually spot drunks a mile away. Lol. Never said you or others didn't see them and was just going by our wonderful experiences. I also know others that have had the same positive experiences like us as well. Maybe one day I'll get to see some drunk entertainment as it can be quite amusing. Haha :)

There's nothing amusing at all at having a drunk vomiting in the bushes next to you during Illuminations, or a group dropping the F-bomb every other word in the Biergarten, or fist fighting outside of Morocco. just sayin'

Didn't say all drunk happenings are amusing by any means. But frankly some of it is. Lol Like mentioned as a former bar/club employee I have seen all types of drunken antics from funny to horrible.
