Eating Around the World

O-kay, so we won't be in WDW for the Food and Wine Festival, but thought it would be kind of fun to eat our way around the world when we are there next June. I'm afraid of going broke by doing so. Is there enough variety at snack carts to sample a variety of foods from around the world, and not add ten pounds to the waistline in the process?

Well, I can't say anything about potential weight gain, but there are plenty of pick up places around the world. Fish & Chips in UK, crepes, wine and pastries in France, Morocco had a good one, US is casual, Mexico had a nice site. Check www.allearsnet.com for a full list.

Don't forget to have a drink at each place as well! :p

You won't be disappointed, as every country has something unique to offer, obviously.
What's great is that if you can't have too many EPCOT sit-down meals, then Morocco, Mexico, China and France all have alot of options that don't require you to eat a full meal, though DO NOT skip Restaurant Marrakesh if you have any chance to go there.

You have probably been to EPCOT before but if you havent then I would recommend that you actually sit down at L’Originale Alfredo di Roma Ristorante in Italy and the Canadian Steakhouse, Le Celier. Those are my favorite two meals when i get to go. I cant decide which one i like better so I always go to both.

Just be careful if you go to get funnel cakes outside the American pavilion. I think it is the only place in WDW that does NOT accept any form of plastic money, including room charges. (speaking from experience)

i was not fond of Italy. I thought it would have been better but it wasn't. I am just use to home Italian cooking and all those Restaurants up here.

There are plenty of choices. There are good pastries at the Norway pavillion. I had this sweet, gooey pretzel there once which was very good. My favorite by far is Morocco. They have this awesome version of baklava that is shaped like a circle and has chocolate and cheeries inside. Wow! Super sweet, but oh so good. I have also heard the churros at the Mexican pavillion are also good, but I have never had a chance to try one.

You can do this without problem, however there will some weight issues that night! Just remember to walk it off!

I suggest getting a drink in every country! That makes it a lot of fun! My personal best, 3 times around the world in one day. I was broke, but had one heck of a buzz!

Actually, I find it far more fun to DRINK around the world. lol
My whole family is old enough to drink now, so we did that the last visit. I'm pretty sure we stopped and got a drink at every Pavilion. I gotta tell ya, the three of us (my lil sis and lil bro and I) getting a little trashed with my parents was HIGHLY entertaining

Without looking at all of the menus for each country in WS, is there more to offer than pastries and desserts? I know I can get a taco in Mexico and a crepe or croissant in France. What else is unique and deserves a try - and can we do this without going broke?

And thanks for the Drink Around the World suggestions, though I won't put them to use. Rarely do I touch anything with alcohol in it.

OK, well if you say unique, Tangierine Cafe in Morocco has some interesting selections. There are some wonderful pastries and sandwiches in Kringla (Norway), China's Lotus Blossum cafe is nice. Fish Shop in UK is well, fried fish, Germany has Sommerfest with wursts, apple pie with vanilla sauce. Their sit down restaurant is a buffet for under $20. Liberty Inn (USA) is burgers, chicken, salads and BBQ. Cantina de San Angel is as you said taco's and texmex fare.

Those are the less expensive options, but I would suggest trying some of the sit down restaurants as well, Canada for steaks and cheddar cheese soup, Rose and Crown (UK) sitdown is not too pricy...nice bowl of lamb and barley soup!, France is nice, Morocco as others have said is a somewhat undiscovered gem, Japanese restaurants are OK (IMHO), Italy is a bit pricy and as I am used to good Italian, not much of a departure, China not much different from local Chinese, the Mexican restaurant I think is also another nice surprise.

Think I got most everything there...

My g/friend and I were just there in late August. We ate at Rose & Crown (Fish and Chips are always good and the Fruit and Cheese plate is HUGE), Italy (not as good as I remember as a kid, but still decent) and France (at the Chefs de France..downstairs). The Chefs de France served the best meal we had at Disney BY FAR. We both like french food (and are really sad that our favorite french restaurant down the street was destroyed by Katrina) and felt that Chefs did the cuisine justice. Very rich, very flavorful. Small wine list, but still had good selections. I'd say this is a very CAN'T MISS restaurant.

I've heard good things about Morocco...and it smelled fantastic. Haven't been to Germany in a long time, but all-you-can-eat brats can't be bad...unless you're a cardiologist.

If you play your cards right then you'll be fine. You just have to pick and choose where to have full meals at, and where it's best to eat a small snack. I find that France, Morocco and Mexico can be done easily without sitting down, though skipping Morocco is ALWAYS a mistake.

Don't be afraid to share food to save money and calories. My wife and I usually split a lunch by getting one fish/chips in England and then walking to Morocco for one chicken combo platter (I've forgotten the name). We share both and get a nice variety. We got two platters at Morocco once, and it was too much for both of us.

Sharing a burrito at Mexico is a another decent lunch for two. Then you can have dessert with individual pastries or pretzels from Norway or Germany on that side of the lake.
