Early Departure and Breakfast Question

Hi Everyone,

I hope this is posted in the correct thread, I thought we had everything all planned for our trip in May, including the ADR's but then...... Spirit Airlines (I will NEVER fly with them again after the trips we have booked) threw a huge wrench in our plans.

I am wondering what time the food court at AKL starts serving breakfast? I have seen hours posted for a few food courts that say 7:00, but those were on some pretty old menu postings. Our original flight was scheduled to depart Orlando at 6:05 PM, then I guess Spirit cancelled that flight all together and bumped us up to a 10:40 AM flight . I am so mad that we now have to leave at 7:30 AM (on the ME). We had booked breakfast at Boma that morning, but that is obviously out of the question. We have the dining plan and I don't want to leave a credit so I am wondering if we will have time to at least get a quick service breakfast that morning of if I should see if I can fit a meal in somewhere else?

Sorry for the rambling post!!

Another option - go to Mara the night before, and purchase milk, juice, cereal, fruit and other items and keep them in the fridge in your room and eat them in the morning.

So you guys are suggesting that I try to rearrange my ADR's and either fit another meal in somewhere or do a signature to avoid leaving the credit unused? I certainly can do that, but I'd rather not have to if possible!

I'm so glad I looked at the flights this morning and not at the last minute (we never got notification of the change). I'd hate to be doing this right before we leave!

I don't see you fitting in a table service meal before a 7:30am DME pickup.

If its counter service credits you have, use them the night before you leave, and save the food and eat it in your room in the morning.

I know we can't fit a TS meal in before we leave and we are going to cancel Boma for that morning, that's why I was wondering what time the food court opened for breakfast. We are on the deluxe plan (5 nights x 3 credits per night = 15 credits) and we have every credit accounted for with ADR's for every meal. We have two meals on our arrival day accounted for (we get in close to lunch time so we can't fit any more in there) then three meals per day every day until departure day, which leaves one credit. I really don't have any places that I want to cancel and switch to a signature to use the extra credit. If the food court opens early enough we could fit that in, which brings me back to my original question.......

Does anyone know what time the food court at AKL opens for breakfast?

We fly Spirit all the time from Atlantic City. They have attempted to change our flight/time rarely but it has occurred. If you call Spirit and tell them they switched your flight you might be able to get on another later flight with no charge, assuming they have a different later flight. We've done that before.
If you can't I would eat at the airport. At least, the new restaurants are open near Spirit gates.

Thank you, that was all I really needed to know.

It's not that I "must" have a hot meal, but why leave a dinning plan meal credit unused if we don't have to? Even food court is better than not using the credit at all and paying airport prices for food.

You don't need to leave the credit unused! Use it the night before and save the food in your room - that way it doesn't matter what time the food court opens in the morning. In other words, purchase your breakfast before you go to bed.

Have you thought about cancelling your flight through spirit and booking with a different airline...at least the return flight? When they change the flight by that many hours you can tell them that it no longer works for you and cancel it without penalty.

I do not know the answer to your question but wanted to put that out there for you to consider.

Good luck!!!

I would look into changing your flight again too. Unless they only have the one flight...you're losing a lot more than the meal credits. That's a huge difference in time...Hope you can make it work!

We are going to see what we can do to change, but the later flights have quite a long layover and our original is nonstop. Canceling and re-booking is totally not an option since the flights are non refundable fares and we don't have that much money to just waste.

That's a good idea! I love cold pizza for breakfast (seriously) :slurp:

If you have counter service credit left - get mara to go.
If you have enough (it takes 2 sit downs for 1 but maybe share) do what we did one year at AKL and have breakfast sent up to your room.
It was quite good and we "shared" so not to be overfull on the flight but
not hungry or waste credits either.

We always get nonrefundable as well. I always go for the cheapest we can get :animwink:! My husband was meeting us later in the week and they changed his flight to much earlier in the day. He couldn't do it because of having to work that day and we had no problem cancelling his flight without monetary penalty and then we booked him on a different airline that had the right time. It might be worth the try at least.

We often do this too, we get Cinnamon buns, Yogurt parfaits, juice etc and have a lazy breakfast on the balcony. When we stayed at AKL we found that the Mara has a great stock of 'take away' items which are still fresh next a.m.

Since we are on the Deluxe plan they are just meal credits that we can use however we wish, not a limited number of TS and a limited number of CS.

Based on Magical Express picking us up at 7:30 AM for the ride the the airport, having to make sure everything is gathered up and get checked out I don't think we'll have time for a lazy breakfast on the balcony, as great as that sounds.

DH is supposed to call and see if he can change us today since they screwed up something on our December flight and are now trying to double charge us he has to take care of that too.

If he can't get it changed then we'll probably go with the idea of getting something that will keep in the fridge the night before and then eating it for breakfast in the morning. It'll be better than wasting the credit and should be substantial enough to hold us over until a late lunch on our way home from the airport.
