During a recent trip, I discovered a DVD for sale in the shop where World Showcase and FutureWorld meet. Eager for new Disney footage after watching the free preview disc to death I got back to my room and popped it in.
I must say that it was a serious disappointment. Instead of offering new glimpses at the parks it seemed like it still had one foot left in the early 90's. In fact, much of the footage was from all my old tapes... You know- the ones with the old couple walking around Epcot Center... From that era. Gheesh, many of the attractions shown had seriously changed. For example, the Universe of Energy was shown in its pre-Ellen form. The scene where Ellen fights the dino was shown, without her! The old T-Rex- Stegosaurus fight had the old colorations. The only thing missing from the tape version was the World of Motion and Horizons. Mission Space was not mentioned, and Test Track was nothing more than footage from a comercial. Imagination was almost completely omitted.
Worse, some of the rides seemed to get the worst possible footage. Peter Pan looks strikingly bad when shown on this disc. It was so bad. people were commenting on it.
With the resources that Disney has, I'm surprised that they don't put as much effort into the DVDs as they do their yearly soundtracks. Given the right equipment, I could do a far better job in a week. Someone with the passion for the "world" should rework the next souvier made...
