DVC Rumors I heard on the Disney Cruise

We went on the 3 night cruise (1/18 thru 1/21) and went to the meeting for DVC members. Had a lot of fun and got a lot of free hats and stuff. We got some news and rumors from the DVC rep:

1) Animal Kingdom was selected as the next DVC resort because it is the WDW resort members used their points to stay at more than any other (besides the DVC resorts). The rep said that DVC monitors stuff like that to make the program better.

2) The rep mentioned that many members used their points for cruises. My question for him was why doesn't DVC build their own cruise ship and sell points just like the other DVC resorts? His response was probably not a whole ship, but possibly a number of decks on a future ship. That sounds like a feasible idea.

3) He guessed points for AKLV will be closer to BCV, BWV, and WLV than SSR and OKW.

Take these rumors with a grain of salt.

If you take the cruise, I'd recommend going to the member meeting. Food and drinks were free and it was nice to talk to other members.

Thanks for the news. I find it interesting that DVC monitors which resort we use our points at. I find it refreshing that DVC looks that hard at the little things.

Neat! We just got a couple of hundred points resale and had no idea about the existence of member meetings. I really like the sound of the cruise ship idea.

Any news on what might be next? Our Rep told us SSR is projected to sell out by the first quarter of next year. We have NO interest in AKV, nor in the contemporary. So is there any rumor about what might be next in development? I'm not sure we'll get our act together in time to buy SSR points from Disney. So I'm curious as to whether it would do at all to wait a bit and see what they have up their sleeves. Or just tell the rep AKV is OUT, what else has she got?

The talk I've heard is either the Contemporary or "not in Florida".

:D

Well, the Contemporary is happening. They won't announce it until they've done a good sell through amount of AKL DVC.

As for "not in Florida" well, lets just say the plan is a good one.

As for DVC on WDW property after the Contemporary ... its going to be a while before they get that far.

I can definitely see the DVC cruise idea very well. The next ship is supposed to be built in 2009? Or am I wrong? I know that Disney had announced recently that it would be expanding the DCL to two more ships.

I believe the next ships roll out in 2010 and 2011.
