DVC or not

How many members here are DVC owners, and do you think it is good value. We currently have Boardwalk and want to buy into Beach Club. I think it is great value, and an ideal location.

Welcome home. That is good news. We were originally going to buy more at the BCV, have 170 at the BWV, all we could afford 2 years ago. Looking at a resale at present, waiting for the right one to come with use year etc. We can then get more at the Boardwalk.

Married@WDW ,

This is kinda true,

Right, but you can only book that 11 months in advance for the total of your points at that location. So you can only book 100 points worth of nights at Beach Club 11 months in advance. You must wait to book the rest of your stay until, is it 9 months or 7 months -- I don't remember.

We own at WL and BW. We booked 11 months for this December at BW and are plannig on using the remaining points for this year from WL. The only think that we have to do is call at the 7 month date and switch the points from WL to BW. No biggie. Granted we did have enough points available to book at BW at the time.

It's no biggie IF the room you want is available at 7 months out. If it's during a "high" season or if you want a room larger than a studio, you can run into big problems. We've been trying to stay at the Boardwalk for two years, but everytime we go to make reservations, the rooms we want are already gone. For example, we wanted a studio for Memorial Day weekend -- all sold out. We wanted a one-bedroom for a week in August -- all sold out. That 4 month window of home ownership can really make a difference in your vacation stay.

Agreed Married.

We were able to book at BW 11 months out and , I will be able to transfer my leftover points from WL to BW in May.
You do have to own at a resort to make the initial reservation, In fact they were planning on using only BW points until I mentioned that I had extra points from WL this year. They told me to call 6 months from the checkout date and move the points. If not I would end up having to bank them and borrow.... far too complicated for me :D :hammer:

I think I understand now. Let me try this: you had enough points to cover the whole reservation at BW with BW points, but you had leftover points for last year at WL, so you made the reservation using you BW points and they'll switch it when your within the timeframe for making non-home resort reservations.

Is that right?

Then your situation is quite unique and not really what I was talking about because you already have your reservation and are just changing the points around. It's people who have to wait out the extra months to try to get the resort they want that I'm talking about -- for them it's very tough during holiday/busy times and when they want specific room types when they have to use the points from two different home resorts.

One other thing...
If BWV is not your home resort, forget about getting a standard view anything. Standard view rooms go VERY quickly so if your're planning on getting a room at the seven month window, plan on the extra points of a preferred view.

We plan all our points for the preferred view, trying to get the standard view in the busy times, like Christmas is almost impossible and too risky, having to change rooms midway through a vacation is annoying.

The worst thing DVC ever did was take away the special seasons preference list, this made it so easy, you always got in, and could book your vacation in one hit, the standard room was easy to get, well it was for us. For me to book a room, with the time difference, and ensure we get a room, I have to ring each night at 1.00 :):)

I think the vacation club is the greatest value. Disney Resort prices seem to be going up every year.

With the Vacation Club, we go to Disney World when we want.

Every resort is great. I think the Wilderness and Hilton are the best DVC.

Overall, I’m very happy with the Club.
If you can dream it- you can do it

I think I said this before, but can't remember. If you are thinking about joining DVC, do it now don't wait. Right now the whole thing ends in 2042, if you join in 5 years it still ends in 2042 and the cost to join keeps going up. I wish we had years ago, but then we were still in grad school and just could not afford it. (we went to Disney every year, but still didn't own a house yet.)

To get the most out of your money join as soon as possible and buy as many points as you think you will need now, don't add on.

We only have 170, but I guess we will make that work for us. (Knowing what I know now I think around 220 would be better.)

Plus if you join now they are selling Beach Club Villas. I wish we would of waited for them since Y&B is my fav resort, but I think VWL is nice also and close to MK.
