DVC member room discounts for cash?

Hey there hi there ho there WDW Magic-keteers...

OK, I'm old and forget stuff, and didn't see it on the DVC webpage. Do DVC members get a discount for booking rooms in DVC resorts for cash?

I have a funny feeling that on our next trip, we're giving ourselves far more time to drive there when we need, enough that we can conceivably show up the day before check-in. Were that to happen, we're weighing options - see if we can use points for a studio anywhere onsite, or stay offsite, or stay onsite. For some reason, I vaguely remember getting a 30 or 35% DVC member discount in the past, but that doesn't mean that I'm right, or that it's still offered. So...is old age getting to me? Or is there indeed a discount for DVC members for DVC rooms for cash?

It is 25% and the discount is only offered when DVC projects that it will not be able to fill the resort with guests using points. The cash discount is sort of a last resort to allowing the room to sit empty. If historical booking trends show that they will not fill-up with points-using guests for your selected date/resort/villa size, they will offer the discount...even months in advance. But if the resort is traditionally at full capacity with members staying on points, the discount will not be available.

Deposit equal to one night's rate is due at the time of booking. That didn't used to be the case but it changed about 18 months ago.

You may be able to book the same location through CRO for a lower rate. But be warned that it will be a separate reservation. You will have to check-in multiple times and may have to switch rooms. And there are dining plan implications if you purchase for either leg of the stay.

OK, thanks for the info. (And to you too, MaxsDad). If we do wind up staying onsite that night, we're not even going to try to tie it to our actual reservation, beyond hopefully getting our bags transferred. We won't be going to the parks (we'll have just driven almost 24 hours straight between my wife and I). We're torn between splitting up the drive and getting the drive over and done with, and I would personally feel more comfortable if we got as close as we could to WDW, at least over the Florida border, before stopping for the night, but if we're close enough to finish the drive with one more spurt, I'm either going to call DVC, CRO or the hotels across from DtD to see if there's room at the inn. But not knowing if we can do it in one drive is what's stopping me from booking a room, potentially losing the deposit. The drive is roughly 16 hours, minus any stops for gas/bathroom/meals. The plan is to start driving after dinner, with brief stops no longer than necessary. If the kids sleep all night, we'll be about 70% of the way there by breakfast.
