It is truly amazing the glacial pace at which TWDC operates.

There are so many pieces of low hanging fruit that Disney can immediately and painlessly address and boost guest satisfaction and spending without any meaningful impact.

This is exactly what we should expect. Look at the sitch…

So their bookings are down (promos are a give away)…which totally lines up with Economic forecasts.

But they’re waiting for the tank. No doubt they are tinkering with the prices behind the scenes…

But why offer it to everyone as good will in January when they can bleed out full price for 3…or 6 months until consumer confidence goes and spending stops?

…this seems very obvious and not the least bit clever…

People plan their summer vacations now. Does anyone there know what they’re doing? Or do the DVC members start selling their massively overpriced points…

I hadn’t heard of members being compensated for lost points, that’s surprising. Once the resorts re-opened their mantra was that they could use their points again. They did allow borrowed points to go back into their original use year, which we took advantage of. It benefited us at the time although we had to cancel again so rented them out.

I can understand your frustration. I hadn’t realised there was normal travel insurance open to DVC members, other than the cover that purely covers the dues on lost points. However the fact that a company decides not to cover overseas guests isn’t DVC’s fault. We’ve had to claim on our U.K. insurance and we got everything back, including the member cash discounted rate and what we paid for the OTUP, but obviously not the points.
The compensation was under the previous insurance rules for the Millennium trip that was cut short. Due to my April use year and not being able to return until the summer, the points that would have been lost we were compensated for, cheque sent in US dollars!

So not compensation from DVC , which is how I read your original comment.

That is not DVC treating you differently, that’s the insurance company. They obviously partnered with DVC to offer an insurance policy that fits well with the DVC timeshare model, but DVC have nothing to do with the insurance company’s decision to stop covering international guests.

It seems one of your biggest gripe is with the insurance company, not DVC.

Yes you are correct, the insurance company changed its rules to exclude international members. My gripe with DVC was that they really weren't interested that a group of club members were being excluded from a benefit that was originally offered to all members.

Disney doesn’t care if you sell the points. Someone else just gets the points and buys full price tickets. The only way they *may* wake up is when direct point purchases are down.
Disney wants points prices artificially high. For the last several years thanks to high demand and aggressive resale buy backs, they got that.

Now when you have a glut of resales for whatever reason, the points value either collapses or Disney starts to aggressively buy back the points at a much higher cost to maintain the artificial high, either way will upend their direct sales model.

For me since cruising is the way to go, we may hit a park for one day a year. An AP isn’t worth it. We may skip the parks this year as $600+ isn’t worth it for the four of us for one day. It’s a shame there aren’t any discounted ticket options of any sort.

Not being able to buy an AP is really hurting us. We let ours expire last year when they were still selling them because I got pregnant and knew we wouldn't be going for nearly a year. Then they stopped selling them and now we're stuck. We're loyal DVC members who have 3 trips planned this year and no APs, all because we wanted another baby. The nerve of us 🙄 DVC members should be able to buy, especially if you had a pass in the past.

This is one of the major things holding us back from buying DVC. An AP would make the investment more worth it. We had told the person from DVC this, and he said unsurprisingly that is the number one complaint they hear. Will anyone actually care? Probably not, but I’m hopeful

I complain to any DVC employee who will listen (And i have been on the phone with planning issues quite frequently lately)
Can’t hurt.
