Sorry folks but I have a stupid question...my wife and I just joined the DVC and our upcoming April trip will be our first staying at a DVC resort. If I am understanding our membership information correctly we are responsible for all of the cleaning during our stay unless we pay for housekeeping to do it but my main question is if we have to empty trash, wash sheets and make beds, empty the garbage and all of that stuff on our last day there or do we just leave it and housekeeping takes care of it. I know this is probably a stupid question so please forgive my ignorance,we just want to make sure we don't leave something undone that we are supposed to do. I hope this made sense!:veryconfu

I am not sure about DVC but standard time shares have you make the bed daily and some have you bring trash and towels to a central location as needed. The last day you just leave everything.
Enjoy your trip ! :sohappy:

I am a DVC member. Housekeeping does minimal the first three days. On the fourth day they come in clean everything and make things tidy. I left a bunch of clothes in the washer and our housekeeper put them in the dryer for me. Not to mention she did the dishes, vacuumed, washed windows. Basically everything that would be done if we were checking out. On the other days you do the dishes, laundry, make your own bed, and everything else. I'm sure if you need something they will take care of it. We had asked for just a couple more towels and we got a whole bunch of them which was great since there was five of us. I thought it was really nice. I'm not too big on strange people coming in everyday just to tidy up my room. Hell I don't even like valet parking... they always readjust my seat.

During your stay depending how long, they come in one day during the week to tidy up. But if you want more you have to pay for it. Even so, most people are neat, for instance my wife continues to make the bed every morning.

While you may have to keep your room tidy during your stay, you do not have to clean your room at the end and take out your trash and such. They come in and clean it just like a regular hotel stay to get it ready for the next guest.

I hope that along with the other respomses answered all of your questions.

Two years ago I stayed at the Beach Club Villas and we had Trash/Towel service after 4 days....and even then I had to complain because they "forgot" about us. I prefer my room cleaned every day :)

DVC Housekeeping

Your confirmed reservation tells you when housekeeping will visit your unit.
They take care of the trash and overall cleaning of the room on that day. If you have an extended stay they will advise you when they will visit your room. If you have excessive 'trash' they will tell you (the maid service) where the disposal points in the villas are and you can dump your own. When we bring food to the rooms from the 'restaurants' in the resorts - we leave the tray outside the door when we are finished and housekeeping eventually picks them up and gets them where they are suppose to be. Overall - you take care of the rooms. Vaccuums are provided, brooms, etc. should you need them. You are provided with an initial supply of laundry soap, dishwasher soap and dish soap. If you use it up more can be purchased in the 'gift shops' at each resort.
It is not called a 'home away from home' by accident. You will be greated with 'Welcome Home'.:king: :king: :king: :xmas: :xmas:

This is what makes me wonder whether or not to become a DVC member. I'm one who also prefers my room done everyday, and I dont want to do it, after all I am on vacation! I geuss that's small compared to the many other things you need to think about if deciding this.

I would consider myself to be a messy person, however my DVC room never gets filthy before our 4th day service. We half way make the beds and generally clean up after ourselves in the kitchen. We aren't really in the room enough to produce incredilbe amounts of trash. The bathroom doesn''t get dirty either. At home we do not wash our towels every day, so to have new towels every day while on vacation is not neccessary.

My point is - Unless you are messier than I am you probably will not need service every day. As a matter of a fact less room service is one of the things I like about DVC. I don't like unfamiliar people in my room. We usually just keep the privacy tag up for our engtire stay so that we don't have strangers in our room.

(Last Oct at AS we had our room cleaned one day and came back to find a whole block of our recently purchased fudge GONE!! I was sure then that I didn't like strangers in my room)
